I'm looking for a driver figure to go in my grapple skidder cab I'm building, but don't want one with a helmet or harness. I've looked at the sand rover figure but am a bit off by the hollowed out back and lack of legs.

Any ideas or is sand rover man my only option ???

The only other one that comes to mind is the Bruiser driver, though he too is backless and legless (but at least he doesn't have a silly hat!).

If you want a complete figure you're probably better off looking at 7" action figures.

WWE figures are pretty detailed and have a fair few articulation points - trouble is most of them are wearing spandex

John Cena (I think) had fairly 'normal' clothing

Neca characters are roughly the right size and they cover a variety of different TV shows so there's plenty in normal "civvy" clothing. Not all of them are articulated tho, I've got one guy who has very good articulation all around and one who barely moves at all. I can't remember who they are since I have no interest in the TV series (one is from Heroes and I think he's actually called Hero, which sounds totally daft to me).

They're usually about £10 on ebay when they come up, I keep meaning to buy a bunch more to hack up for my scale projects but somehow I keep buying new projects instead...

Yup - Neca 'Army of Two' figures only have upper-body articulation - legs are rigid from the belt down to the ankles

Thanks for the responses guys. I've seen the bruiser driver but I don't like the look as much as the sand rover guy. I'd also seen the 1/14 truck driver but he is too small as the skidder is 1/10. I've had a quick look on ebay at the 7" figures and there's a phenomenal choice, but most of them seem to be out of 'character' for what I want or quite expensive, i.e. a similar price to sand rover a parts. I'll think on it a bit longer but I think I might go for the SR guy. At least it will be easy to replace the cowboy hat with a loggers helmet.

I've also just pulled the trigger on a Tamiya 1/16 WW2 german elite infantryman to go in the top hatch of my custom half track, so looking forward to seeing how that fits.

I saw something the other day about personalized action figures. Like you can get yourself

That sounds interesting - would love to know more about that. Not that I want a small version of myself, you understand. I'm small enough as it is...

I've often wondered about 3D printing but I don't know what type of computer model is required.

I've also considered trying to sculpt my own characters - my fiance makes jewellery and dragon models from polymer clay, which is this totally awesome stuff like Plasticine which turns into a hard plastic after being baked in an oven. Sadly I suspect I would be totally rubbish at sculpting faces tho.

Generally I find the articulated figures aren't articulated enough in the leg area to fit Tamiyas anyway, so they tend to need surgery. Plus RC interiors usually lack sufficient leg room, unless you want to cut the bulkhead (like I've been slowing doing with my Robbe Jeep over the last year).

I was going to suggest Toykid too... I don't know if his scale Sand Rail driver is available yet, but personally I love Moto Willy ;o)

Have just bought a sand rover figure before seeing the last 2 posts, the sand rail driver looked like it might have been ideal, but having looked further at my model I'm not sure if I'm going to need the legs anyway now. Will just have to see how I get on with the sand rover figure, but thanks again to everyone for all the responses.

I reckon the Sand Rover figure looks great - can't wait to see the result!

If you want to lose the hat, I've got an old Blackfoot driver head you could use?

I'm thinking of making a loggers tin hat on the lathe and then using the cowboy hat as cab decoration. I'll keep the offer in mind though thanks, I'll have a better idea of what I can do once the figure has arrived and I can try it for size on the model.

My Sand Rover driver turned up today. Not as great as I would have hoped, as he has quite a relaxed posture. I think I'm going to have to slope the legs down quite a bit to get the back fairly upright, but this will help with the arms reaching the steering wheel:
