5800 - The Quest!

I am about to begin a quest to find, restore, and shelf each one of the first fifty 5800 series rc models.

My knowledge does not reach much further than the vintage three speeds so I will be asking a lot of questions.

it may take some time as I start from the beginning...lol

I'm not looking to build NIB kits but rather to bring used ones back to a like new and highly detailed condition.

so, here we go.

58001:

how often does the 58001 show up for sale around here or on e-pay?

what kind of money does a well driven kit fetch?

are there members here that are known to have parts for it?

are there parts that are impossible to find that may need to be manufactured?

That's a fantastic quest, but not an easy one. Don't forget to share some pictures of the cars you find and work on, Forrest. Your restorations are always outstanding.

That guy has to be out of his mind! 8,000euro's is $9,828.80USD That's outrageous.. he doesn't want to sell it in other words so it's pointless asking cause he will shoot down any real world reality offer for it

This will be interesting to follow. If it was me though, I'd start at number 50 and work my way down, not try to find the rarest one first and then do the easier ones afterwords.

Don't forget to make sure its adequately insured too as even if they were all worth only £200 each that's £10,000!!! I can see it being closer to £20,000 by the time you're finished though!

Jump on E-bay , as there are two on there at the moment . From $799 to $1999. thats between the two .

As the Mad inventor said, my advice would be to start at 58050 - The Wild One and work your way down to 58001..

The higher number kits are generally cheaper, and easier to find, and will give you something to restore whilst you look for a good deal on the lower numbered kits..

Keep in mind that many of the kits in the first 50 have been re-released such as the Fast Attack Vehicle, Frog, Subaru Brat, Sand Scorcher, Rough Rider (as the Buggy Champ) etc.. so this may make your search for replacement parts a little easier, unless you plan to use only 100% vintage parts in your restorations...

That is good goal to set and strife for. All it takes are Time, Money and Space., and put the words out. Hard to get models will appear, especially if the price is right for the seller.

You maybe the only one or two at TC deemed 43K+ members that will own the 1st 50 when that time has arrived.

I look forward when you post all the models in your glass display wall cabinets with lights and water jars inside.

I think you will buy whichever model that becomes available, provide is within your value and not start from 50 and work backwards or from 00 and forward.

You are going to need lots of patience and time when you do find them.

Are you single with no children and a part time job?

That is the only way I could imagine having the time to undertake such a task.

You will need some display shelvings at 2mx.350mx2m+/- to house them all.

If you can complete the entire 50 models within a year would be just amazingly

amazing as most of us just having 50 kits will take years.

I'm in the US and not the best at converting metric to US standard measurements. 350m is something like 1,100' ?

0.350m that is 14 inches. i figure you'll need shelves 6' x 1' x 6'. similar to TC membeR pininfarina from singapore, who has this amazing display for his rc. can see if in the other forum "how do you display your collection".

The 1st 50 got to be properly display and protected.

I should have the ferarri any day now.

I was hoping to have it for Christmas but the that did not happen.

I did pick up a very nice John Player F1 Lotus thinking that it was a 58020 but realized that it is actually 58053.

So, I think that I'll detail it out and put it back on the market since it is outside of my quest.
