I'm surprised I did not know the Willy's Wheeler is no cartoonesque vehicle. Just come across some photos of the real ones, Honda City Turbo from the late 70's-early 80's.

They're SO cool! :)

Yup early 80s Honda City. The turbo 1 wasn't too dissimilar from the bread and butter City but the Turbo 2 had the wider guards like in the lower photo.

City one makes races were quite popular in Japan, the turbo 2 cars were also known as "bulldog" because of its pudgy appearance.

I very nearly bought one many years ago. I know someone that forged the internals and put a bigger turbo and ECU which gave many bigger more capable cars a scare... until 140kph lol

I think the scooter was an option that came with the car. It folded up and fit into a carrier in the hatchback. When I was a kid I had a 1:24 scale Tamiya model of the combo.

That is correct. These cars are really neat - something about their squat appearance and those wild flares that really make me wish I could drive one... I probably have a better chance of that than finding a Tamiya Willy's Wheeler, to be honest!

There's an nib one on that auction site now.

I'd imagine the price will get silly though..

I saw that when it was listed... Something like BIN $2k OBO

Then is was removed and relisted with a BIN of $1,750. It sold for that...

First I've ever seen a BNIB Wheeler. I was tempted but my girl would have KILLED ME. No really.. I'd be dead right now. haha

I have, sitting on the counter of McCann's Modelworld in Hobart in about 1985. :(
