Hello All,

Here's a little change of pace - for you vintage Tamiyas what vintage radio controllers do you prefer and why - for instance, who likes vintage Acoms? or Kraft? or vintage Futaba Wheel?

Intersted to hear what you like and why.

Hey sparky, I like the futaba radios, never had another brand than that so thats why I keep getting them.I'm getting a new one with my twin detonator in a few weeks, and I think the quality and parts are great,I realy think you cant go wrong with a futaba in your rc. I have a radio system here that is about 1987 era,it came with a raider kit I got off ebay last month. The owner says it has never been installed into a rc and is new. I have no idea what this radio is worth, but it appears new and its in the original box with foam and instructions,Its an aristo-craft challenger 2px.2 servos no esc.I realy dont know what I will use it in,may put it on the bay??.

Futaba - when I got my XR311 back in the 80's, everyone had Acoms, but I saw the Futaba unit at a bargain price (£80 I think it was) and got that. It was far better made than the Acoms. Can't remember the model number, and you don't see many of them around because the Acoms were much more prolific.

I still prefer Futaba low-end gear, the servos they provide are a lot quiter than the Acoms and just seem better built.

i to use futaba radios -

ive got the old bionic gold model for my clod, and an attack r model aswell, never had any radio problems and they have a very good range[:)]

i stuck with futaba when i got my mammoth dump truck last year, ive got the t2er, its a very nice radio, its easy to hold and operate, and it even got dropped on the floor, the plastic cover came off the front but it clipped back on, and it still works fine[8D]

Futaba are the best[:P]

Yep, Futaba S3003 (and all its badge-engineered brothers) is a

fantastic unit and top value for $$. Quicker and torquier than

you'd expect from a "basic" servo, I love 'em.

Acom's servos from recent years is still pretty noisy... they work

a little quiter if you open them and stuff the gears full of

ceramic grease. But they still work even if you don't, I guess.

OO ER, am I the only acoms man here? I got various sets Fatuba Acoms and Sanawa, But always use the acoms. Probably cause I can use it with lots of different servo makes and types (after some wire swaping) as its got reverse switches.

Futaba is far and away the best quality gear out there IMHO. My Grandad's garage is full of the stuff - and it would probably work even now!

The reason there is a lot of Acoms gear in the UK is because the Tamiya importers also brought in Acoms. I always found it amusing (yes I am sad) that RiKo adverts would recommend Acoms, while Tamiya were developing Adspec handsets with Futaba at the same time!

Also all the old RCs I bought in the 80s were Futabas and Robbes (rebadged Futaba), they all still work perfectly today! [8D]

From what I have read over the years, Acoms is cheap and cheerful, Futaba has the latest bells and whistles and Sanwa is thge best quality. Based on my experience, I agree. My latest Sanwa Dash Saber transmitter is massively more comfortable than the Futaba Attack I bought the other week which feels very cheap and plastiky in comparison.

Anyone at Snet is welcome to come and have a feel of my transmitter. Erm, hang on. That doesn't read right does it...? [:I]

I've always used Futaba radio, never had a failure, very rarely any glitches (usually caused by people switching on without the "peg")

I've got some 70's vintage Futaba Medalion sets, and the all work pefectly.

Futaba = Highly recommended for vintage, much superior to contemporary Accoms

Used a Futaba FP2-LGX through the 80s. When it died I bought another one second hand. Currently using a JR Beat transmitter (vintage early 90s) as my main TX.

Hey guys,

Seems I'm another person who likes Acoms. I don't like their new stuff (very poor quality TX, the newest version of the Tchnisport is utter ****), but I mainly use 80's Technisport & Techniplus in my runners. Since I'm a cheapo I like the fact that you can still get lots of range with them even when the bettery meter's saying "2," lol [;)]

MMBIB, I too have a Futaba Bionic Gold set and they only probs I have with it is that it eats the TX batteries too quick! Apart from that it's great. Sanwa makes some nice stuff, I have a newer set by them in my WW2 and I've experienced no problems what-so-ever. Also the Futaba gear that's in my Clod seems pretty reliable so I have no particular favorite, I just have more old Acoms gear than any other brand. [8D]

By the way, all vintage radios have superb range as interference and transmission regulations weren't very tough back then, only you can't use too close frequenices and often interfere modern close frequency receivers [:D]

i have only 1 futaba transmitter, thats the ugly and cheap looking futaba atack. It works well and is only used on my protech 1/8 phaser 4 i have an old accoms techniplus ap-227 mk3 which i use on my tamiya lunchbox my favorite transmitter with a proper battery life meter .I have one other transmitter a modern acoms techniplus ap201 which i use for my tl01, xr311, clodbuster, cen gx1 nitro, and any new rc car i get in the future .futaba stuff is very good quality exept the attack transmitter most of my rc stuff has acoms stuff i prefer the older futaba and accoms stuff to newer items.i have a futaba esc with a 20 motor limit in my lunchbox very nice esc very good quality .
