0.6mm should be perfect!  I have been using 0.8mm x 12mm strips for the narrow bits, and for the pieces that are wider than 12mm, I have a 6” wide sheet that’s about 0.6mm thick that I been cutting pieces from. I will start putting together a a few pics of the bits and then edit it with the measurements I’m using for 1/10 and 1/8. Should be able to send it off to you by Monday night.

excellent

Lol..sweet!  well...I do want to start building some more vans....I made a cast of the completed roof that I’m getting a buddy here in the states to vacuum form...hoping that it will provide a styrene roof that will need minimal work as I dread building another from scratch...lol. If it turns out to be usable, I’ll send you a copy as well a few bits that I have cast already...maybe you can do a replica of the WB that you had...will be awesome to see that!

yeah, I like that idea :D Vac forming from a cast should give a pretty good result. Hmm, I should dig out some pics of my WB.

hmm, sorry pics are too great, this is all I could find. Pics are from a trip I did with some friends over New Years after we finished high school.

It was a very basic Panel Van, no real comforts. Not great to drive in the wet, the back end was very light and it was prone to getting water in the distributor and not running.

and a really dodgy pic of me on the bonnet at 18 yrs.

Pics look great yogi-bear! Really nostalgic...reminds me of the old days back in Trinidad!  The van looks great ! Did you install the rear windows or was that a dealer option?

I got it like that. Dad had been using it as work vehicle while waiting for his new car to arrive. I then kinda got it to drive while doing work for Dad (he was building tennis courts at the time) and I sold it about year later and ended up buying one of the most unreliable cars I've ever owed! I got it late 1989 and I think it was a 82 model. It wasn't in the best of condition, I found out later it had a lot of rust in the roof. Also the mirrors didn't work properly and it would also leak onto the steering wheel if the nose was down a little. Oh, plus after a fair bit of rain, you could hear water rushing forward every time you slowed down, there must have been some getting in under chassis somewhere.

So another small update ...lol

Been getting my butt kicked over the last few days trying to build the door mirror...  finally I sucked it up and started to kick back ...!

Still need to tweak the arm on the mirror a bit, hoping to start laying down some paint and some chrome tomorrow when I get home from work...will get the rear bumpers done and installed as well. I believe that the Sandman door mirrors, handles, and window trim was blacked out from factory, but I’m torn between painting the mirror in black or painting it orange...

Anywho....here’s a few pics...more to come soon!

Wow...! I got another update !.....   Yeah...I don’t believe it either!

Got the mirror and the door handles painted and installed... but like a big doofus, I forgot to make a mold of the door mirror so I don’t haveta build it again :   But it’s not permanently attached as yet, just being held on with some Tamiya double sided tape, so I guess I can pull it off later on and mold it... I used some bare metal foil for the mirror itself, but I think the next one i’ll paint instead !  I got the rear bumpers chromed up as well...I was rushing to get it done and I forgot to apply some glazing putty to fill up any pin holes, so now the bumpers look pitted in some areas   they are being held on with double sided tape as well. I think later on I will cast another set and prep them properly before applying the chrome paint.

Anywho...here’s a few pics of where it’s at....!
Watcha think?

The bumpers use to rust up real easy anyway, so a bit if pitting wouldn't be about of place  they came out really well though and the mirror are fantastic, what chrome paint are you using?

I meant to ask before, what's the red car in one of the earlier pics?

Hey thanks yogi-bear! Yeah...I hear you with the pitting on the 1:1.  I’m using spazstix ultimate mirror chrome for air brush. It’s really formulated for lexan but with some experimentation you can get some decent results when applying to hard bodies. Like the front bumper I did....

The red red car is a 1/25? 1969 Ford Capri MK1. I wanted a Mk3, but the prices were to ridiculous lol... I want to build one at 1/10 scale... what I really wanted to build is a Mazda RX2 Capella but those aren’t available bigger than 1/43 in diescast. There are some plastic kits at 1/20 - 1/24 , but those are rare and the prices are in the stratosphere lol... an opened / started kit usually goes for 100-125.00 and a new kit is upwards of 200.00.  But because of the curved shape I need to have a model in front of me to see exactly how the lines go...if that makes sense!

cheers, I'll have to try some one day.

Yeah, scale die cast car prices are crazy, which could be a good thing, as I'd end up collecting way too many

I've been collecting the 1/20 to 1/24 models too, not only great body reference, but good for internal and chassis reference as well. One other idea I wouldn't mind trying one day is reversing the function of my cnc machine. You can buy sapphire tipped probes to provide very sensitive feedback and use it to map a part to get a 3D model or to just machine a copy. Very slow though, but I believe this is the process used in pre-3D modelling days to copy bucks and molds.

So far I have managed to get the  3 Tamiya Volvo ones for reference, Mk 1 Ford Escort in 1/43 and Mk 2 Ford Escort, Golf GTi Mk 1, a 1956 Beetle, Mazda 3 Savanna GT, 93 Celica Monte-Carlo, BTTF 1 Delorean and a Pantera. Plus some 1/12 kits: Lamborghini Countach LP 400, Mach 1 Ford Mustang, 57 Chevy, Porsche (Static version of the 58001 car, partially built though), Ferrari 314T (I bought that one as a 12yr for $22!) and a Mini Cooper. Plus a heap of cheaper Revell and AMT kits to practice some model making and painting techniques.

I wouldn't mind getting more 1/12 scale kits, but they are very pricy!

I'm still try to find Cortina Mk 1 kit, but they seem very rare and $200 plus for a detailed die cast version is just too pricey for me. Even low run resin kits are pricey, going for $45 to $100 usually just for a body and some minor detail.

Yeah...last month I almost bought a 1/18 lotus cortina mk1...! Beautiful white with green trim...I believe it was a sports version...Lol. On eBay.... at 1 minute to closing the bids were at 60.00. I put in a bid for 75.00 and at 45 seconds I got out bid and it jumped to 92.00. It sold for 177.50.  Way ou5 of my league....lol. But if I had the funds in my PayPal I would have bought it, if only just to take pics and possibly build it at 1/10, then stick it back on eBay ...lol..the detail was incredible! I still have a link to it in my ‘didn’t win’ column, but I’m not sure how to grab pics from the listing...

yeah, that is an amazing model. You should be able to click in the images to zoom in and then right click to save them (that's how I do it). Easy to see why it costs so much. I have of course dutifully copied your pics for later reference :D  I have a 3D model that I intend to print once I sort out the two Escorts.

Sweet ! I will probably hit you up for a 3D printed version whenever you get around to printing it... I will still build it from styrene, just need the base shapes and lines to go from.... lol... that’s providing I don’t get crazy and buy one of those 1/18 models lol!

Hey thanks yogi-bear, I have seen that before, but it looks a bit different to the RX2. Doesn’t really say in the description...

yeah, sorry, not really up on my RX 2's, it could be some Australian variant, I do recall seeing that shape in real life though. Now I'm curious as to what the difference is, unless is hasn't been modelled properly.

Hey no worries lol... won’t be building it anytime soon ... this is what I’m looking for.... https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F132909257270

it may be the same car, but to me the bonnet and the rear of the roof looks different...

On a more ‘on topic ‘ note, will have some pics up sometime tonight....started applying the decals !
