Question,

Now and then I see some NIB Tamtech's on ebay. Does anyone that has experience with these know if the batteries still hold a decent charge?

If not, can you make new battery packs for these? Does anyone have experience with this?

Or is it better to just give up on the Tamtechs?

Please advise.

New batteries that have never been charged usually survive storage ok.

Used batteries should be cycled regularly and stored in discharged

state. But either way... battery technology has moved on 20yrs now.

The Tamtech batteries use a industrial-size cell, I think its 1/2 AA.

They wouldn't be hard to get from a specialist battery supplier and

then you can build your own packs.

If you need plugs check out the HPI Micro RS4 rack @ LHS.

the Tamtech uses the same cells that many cordless phones use. these can be bought at almost every electronics store and even some supermarkets

Oh yeah, hey! [:D]

Never quite put 2 + 2 together until you mentioned it.

Was even helping a colleague find a new batt for his Panasonic phone

just a few wks ago... was looking closely at those 3-cell things.

But gee... buying 2 packs (= 6 cells) to make into 1 @ retail would be

a pretty expensive exercise... could get a decent fullsize 7.2V

pack for less than that.
