I have two sets of these now.

They come with the inner bits for varying the damper rate but a fixed rod. Any ideas what and where I can get the upgraded rods from and if it is worth it?

You can find the rods from parts bags of vehicles with Mini and Short CVA dampers. E.g. Tamiya 2WD buggies and Stadium Trucks. The plastic piston discs are already included in your damper set.

I have no experiences with the solid metal 1-piece rods. My guess is you would want the adjustable rods when you want less damping, e.g. for lighter vehicles.

Dt-01 and 02 so need light stroke. Thinking about it though if I have to strip them anyway I might just try lighter oil first.

I have a bottle of 10w fork oil in the garage that might be worth a shot

Even with the dampers that come with multiple piston options, I tend to build them with a 2-hole piston (roughly equivalent to the metal plate ones you have there) and then tune them via oils. You can make smaller, more precise changes with different oils, and I find it is less hassle than changing pistons too.

I found the long damper rod on both sides was very rough as well. I might polish them next time and see if it reduces stiction.
