Mika Hakkinen, David Coultard, Damon Hill, Alain Prost, Rubens Barrichello, Johnny Herbert, Mika Salo, Ukyo Katayama, Eddie Irvine, Ron Dennis, Norbert Haug, Mark Blundell, Eddie Jordan, Matt Neal, Tim Harvey, Alain Menu, Tiff Needell, Sue Barker !!!!, Laura from the Adult Channell (~*^!), Rowan Atkinson, Justin Wilson, the list goes on and on....but the best moment.....Ayrton Senna. Back when I lived in Adelaide South Australia - my sponsor (for r/c racing) at the time, offered for me to go R/C Flying with them ......little did I know that, when I turned up, none other than Ayrton Senna was there flying with us!! He was truly amazing.......a real freak - he had not been flying long at all - and could manage inverted flight after just a couple of attempts ! In the years to come, one of Ayrton's favourite hobbies was R/C aircraft. I still beleive to this day that Ayrton was given a bum deal by the media........he was just a very passionate person.

I drove next to Masami Hirosaka on the drivers stand at the "worlds warm up" race here in australia.....he was over 1 second quicker per lap than me !! :( .......man that guy is seriously talented.

Australian formula one driver, Mark Webber recently signed my R/C F1 CARBON Body.......I also happend to drive a cart against him many years ago in Queenbeyan (where he grew up)......MUCH faster than me - did not have a hope!! [:I]

Nothing else majorly exciting - been to the Tamiya Cup National finals (when they did it the right way - with qualifying rounds) - and just missed out on the trip to Japan both times by one place in different classes.........there is a L O N G story there.....I know and "raced" most of the famous Australian drivers......in fact - I hope to make a "come back" next year. [;)]

Thats about it for now

Cheers

Hmm

I was Chief Scrutineering Marshall when the 2002 Onroad worlds was held at my Home Club, where I am Race Director, @ Keywest Model Racers, Krugersdorp, South Africa. Being CSM I met and interacted with all the drivers attending the Worlds.

Before the Worlds itself there were alot of practising by different teams. Ive met Oscar Jansen (Orion Motor wizz), Atushi Hara (HPI - actually saw the HPI Prototype for the PRo4 when it was tested here by Hara - nobody else new about it then). Ive met Surikan (Tamiya world Champ), Barry Baker, Masami, Old Guy Reedy, Timo Leeno, Richard Trjilo etc.

Man that was a week to remember!!!!

You are right there Jakes - there is something very special about witnessing a major R/C racing event.

Did you get to see the scary things they do to batteries and motors while you were there? [:0] They are not afraid to throw the money around in the chase for the title.

Cheers

Darren - those guys are smooth - the more you try to see - the less you see. Ive gotten some tips from Oscar about motors - but not the "battle" tips - they had row upon row of modified armatures on their benches. While scrutineering you saw the motors and the batteries - furthermore NOTHING!!!

Sure is!!

Waaay back... 1982, we flew into Singapore just to go racing 1/8th.

It was an international meet and there were a few recognisable faces (from reading magazines - Phil Booth, Colin Greneger, Ishihara) but heck, a *kid* couldn't care less back then.

What did impress was... wow, "handout" fuel! (K&B!)

Then came the sponsored guys... simply amazing. Each one turned up with a big suitcase for their car, at least 2 suitcases full of tyres and approx another 10 suitcases of spares. We're talking huge suitcases here too.

And when they saw you were running 'their' car (Delta Eagle), its instantly "my spares stash is your spares stash, just help yourself to anything you need". Wow.

(To a kid, that's more impressive than seeing Ursula Andress naked.)

Another famous link! Not too famous though! My cousin John Rupic is actually one of the best fishing anglers in Australia as well as the world! He is the frontman for maxima fishing line and writes for magazines as well as producing fishing videos! He is sponsored my Maxima,Shimano,Shakespeare,Mustard ect!He fishes the Murray around Albury and currently has 56 ANSA records(caught in a two year period),the most official national records on the entire planet! His boss is Ken Mcloed,a scottish guy who is second cousins with Donald Trump-good friends too!

Right then seing as some people have moved off rc I wonder if I can do the same.

So, my fiancess best friends husband is Coldplays (British Band - Very good!) production manager. As such we have been to loads of their gigs with backstage passes. Whilst backstage I have rubbed shoulders with a plethora of stars including:

The Band (obviously)

Gweneth Paltrow

Alan Rickman

Jimmy Nesbit (Irish guy from coldfeet)

Nelly furtado (she is really short!)

band memebers from bands like - Faithless, Wheatus, Verve, Foo Fighters, Chilli Peppers, Robbie Williams, the list is quite long and boring actually.

Whats more interesting than that perhaps is that I went to college with the cousin of the guy who wrote the flumps! [:D][:D]

(for those of you who dont know, the flumps was a weird kids programme from the 80s)
