Hi Everyone

Which Tamiya would you recommend I get for messing about on the beach in Wales?

I am thinking a buggy of some kind but am open to any other ideas.

Bring your old TX. My buddy ran his car at the beach, the car was fine afterwards but his 1 year old TX got sand and salt in the gimbals. It now has the feel of a 20 year old TX....

WT01 is my stock answer for everything lol! Have to admit, I'm getting tempted with a modified Blitzer after all the positive reports on them...

Question; what is better at the beach, plastic bearings, or rubber shielded?

I would say rubber shielded bearings are the better choice. Plastic bushings start to damage your metal parts as soon as you start running the vehicle, whereas rubber shielded bearings only start to do so when they are too gunked up with sand to rotate, and if you get good ones, this can take quite a while to happen.

You can always soak them in some WD40 to free them up again. It always amazes me how bearings that look like they should be thrown away can be freed up and spin away quite happily!

I did this with a HB2010 that had cheap metal shielded bearings from Honkers. It'd only splashed through a few puddles of sea water at the beach but within minutes they were seizing up and some were solid but the time I got home! Needed a full strip down, I managed to save about half soaking in WD40 but they were never as smooth again.

Since then I've always fitted decent rubber sealed bearings and stayed well clear of any water on the beach, not had a problem since :)

They should do, all the WT01 chassis come with 2.2 sized wheels, the width looks ok too. You should only fit them on the drive wheels unless you're going 4x4 of course :D They would look insane on all 4 corners chucking sand everywhere!

I think we need to have a beach meet in the summer if there isn't already one. B) (and if it's legal :D ).

Back to the topic I'd take my wt01 to the beach from the tamiya I've got.

Thats the problem Terz - any organised event will require all members taking part to have insurance and for whoever organises it to jump through all the H&S red tape . Being tried before without success :(. Of course if a group of guys just happen to turn up at the same time at the same beach - well thats just coincidence ;)
