The problem is I am going to have to finish it now. I think the RX and esc will fit low down in the tub and I can fit a flat sheet over the top. I would also like to rotate the servo 90 degrees and mount it better, maybe on mounts screwed to the bottom of the tub

AND  a big fake v8 in the rear of the cage ?

Might have to get some thin plastic to make some bodywork with to see how it comes together

No just sat on. I was surprised what a good fit it was. Wheel base and width are good. Needs some out riggers for the shock towers to move the shocks more upright I think and then some way of mounting it. Lots of playing to be done.

I decided to do a bit more on this, partly to try and create a waterproof chassis.

Sheet of scrap plastic from work. Marked out with what I think will fit

Couple of lugs cut off chassis

Almost on the first fit

Slight trim and we are there

Body test fit

The main purpose of this is to be a camera car for my Go-pro, the cage should offer some protection

Half a nail to find the screw holes

SAM_1850_zpsjttaryog.jpg

Test fit, one hole is slightly oval to get it all tight

Body bolted to base. I can leave the body on the base and just remove the base if I need to get to electrics.

Camera test fitted again

Loads more to do but I think the basic project is sound

how about using aluminium ? its not all that hard to cut with a jigsaw so long as you clamp it to some scrap plywood or similar

I am going to use a checker plate plasticard to start with. I might use alloy or CF later. Ooooo that reminds me, I have a sheet of A4 1mm CF in stock.

Couple of new pics

Base tray almost finished and servo in. Need a bit of silicone now to waterproof it all

Body work to follow

That looks great. The dimensions of the cage make it look like a well-proportioned, larger scale car. Really impressed so far. Might have to try something like that with my mad bull too.

Tried plasticard treadplate looked great until I tried to fit it. Not enough stiffness to follow the lines.

Got a industrial freezer going for scrap at work so I might see if I can rob a bit of stainless off it and try that.
