I am forced to be in the place I hate most for the next couple of days so I thought I could pop to a bricks and mortar shop if there is one close. I am staying near tower bridge and working at Excel.

Any ideas?

And ask them for advice about upgrades, they're real RC experts! :)

Not RC but Forbidden Planet on Shaftesbury Ave is usually worth a browse if you're into SciFi.

There is no LHS anywhere in London, a city of nearly 9m people, any more so far as I can tell - which is one reason it's in the state it's in, from my own highly personalised standpoint ;). You'll have no problem finding a Starbuck's, Costa or Greggs though...

Hamley's sells kits at full price to tourists but it's a toy store, not for hobbyists.

There is, or used to be, a place I know that sold model kits (not R/C) and raw materials, paints and the like, but it's north of Hendon and therefore miles from you.

Don't know of any hobby shops in central London now but Imperial War & Science museums should fill a couple of hours :)

That was my first option but I thought I would combine that with a shop visit. Will look at the map an see how many stops I am away.

There was a hobby shop in Camden (I used to frequent it a lot as it as the only one around) but that closed last year, that's it for near enough central London there is somewhere near heathrow, I forget the name, they have a few bits and pieces but not much by the way of hop ups etc, I believe it caters more for the Helicopter flyer.

edit : www.brentfordrc.co.uk the one I as saying near Heathrow,

this is the one that had a shop in Camden, they have a store in north London, although I have never been there.

To be honest it is not London I hate it is people and there are more per square foot than I can cope with for long. Brought up with the "strong in the arm, thick in the head" country folk has made me a bit odd that way :-p

London is a horrible place wasn't like that in the 80s or the early to mid 90s too many people services are cramped and it's all a big mess!! If it wasn't for work I would happily live elsewhere.

I went shopping in London last weekend, popped into Harrods to see what I couldn't afford, and they sell Tamiya, however, £350 for an 'Expert Built' campervan seems a bit steep to me! They used to sell hop-up stuff a few years back, didn't see any in there last visit though. Hamleys have a good R/C counter and the guy there was very helpful when I last went there about a year ago, found a few bits I needed for a TA-01!!

London is a great place to visit, but it is very crammed for such a huge place, don't think I'd like to live there. Luckily I'm only a few stops on the train away, so no real effort for me to get there if I want to!

Definitely visit Forbidden Planet if you're a sci-fi geek, though they aren't cheap either.....

There's another film SciFi store nearby. If you come out of FB and crossover the road and go down the lane opposite you'll get to St Martins Lane. It runs down to Trafalgar Square and down there on the right, set back a bit is another film shop. Worth a look if you're in the area.

The first time for me in London was 2003, where I visited the Swiss Re tower construction site and a large site near Paddington station.

The last times I visited London it was for looking how our recent sites (Woodberry Down and Rathbone Market) were doing in 2011 and 2012.

Since these journeys were mainly business trips, I had little time for sightseeing or even shopping. I fondly remember the Natural History Museum (Dinosaurs! RAWR!*) and the Design Museum in 2003. The latter had a nice exhibition back then for the Grand Theft Auto Vice City videogame, celebrating the 80s.

In the end the show took up my full days and the evening went a bit wrong when I remembered a lost friend works on the same tube line as my hotel. Many beers were had :-)
