Do they sell? Do people actually pay these prices? Just seen a Technigold for £170! I have seen some other crazy priced items recently.

I know these items are rare or vintage but some prices....

You can see the if items have been really sold by using the column on the left, where you can activate "sold items only".

I think I have purchased a motor (something old I think a 02h) for just under that in the past (I think from the same chap!) , I did it as I needed it and couldn't be bothered with waiting, it prol will sell to some poor sob like me that doesn't have the patience to wait.

so wouldn't say its high priced prol more of a get as much as possible if im going to sell it type thing.

I normally refrain from buying on ebay unless price is fair. Having said that, bought front tires for my Astute last week on ebay after almost a year searching and getting desperate, only to see them offered in 3 different places at half the price this week. :( :( :(

There is a rising fighter on eBay ATM for £999.00 + £8 shipping .

That's got to be an error on the seller's part. I would have thought it was meant to be listed as £99.00 or similar. Either that or the seller is the most optimistic person on Earth

I've seen it there several times.. :-) in fact I think there are at least two listings, one has free postage though !!!

All the previous sales are £99.99, it's not an error, it's what they do to stop people buying them whilst they are out of stock, so they don't have to end the auction.

If it's 30 years old, rare, and in collectible state then is that really very expensive? With things like this the value is beyond the price of the components and reseller markup. It could be the final piece in someones collection that they spent years building and they will not think twice about the price. Or it may not sell and the advertiser has the option to reduce the price until the market bites. Either way I am surprised every day by some of the cheap prices I see for bits that have sat on a shelf somewhere for decades, probably costing more in rent than what they are for sale for!

That being said, I saw a new-in-box Lancia Rally go for $1 200 (after hanging around for what must have been months) while other sellers put theirs up for $1 600 and up. One even went in at almost $2 000 when the lower-priced one was not really garnering much interest.

So I imagine in some cases, the sellers are really not looking to sell quickly, if really at all. If someone pays what they are asking, great; if not, not entirely a loss since they have a nice model.

At least, that is how I thought it worked, given that some of those auctions never seem to cut their prices after consecutive non-sales. A boxed Lancia Rally body set is up for over $600 right now when another one struggled for some time to sell at just over $300.

It seems I never know how collectors work; it could be gone tomorrow but given its longtime presence it currently seems unlikely.

I still use eBay for vintage items, but my discovery of Banzai has made it a lot easier to acquire newer chassis!

I cant help myself and laugh at the sellers who are somewhat optimistic in their idea of what something is actually worth, and will relist the same item week after week for more or less the same over exaggerated price. I cant help but wonder if at some stage the listing fees incurred from eBay actually exceed the true worth of the item being sold..

What does annoy me however are scalpers.. Those that will buy items not always available everywhere and then list them for prices sometimes 10 or more time their original purchase price.. Now, I don't begrudge anyone the ability to sell items on eBay to make some pocket money, but to blatantly extort and to take advantage of people I feel is a bit over the top..

That's a fair price for a rare MK1 Rising Fighter...

Seen a NIB vintage Hotshot on ebay that was in the States and was selling for nearly $1800 buy-it-now. It was on there for over a year so I'm guessing he had no joy!!

Some folk are just greedy

i think its all a question of perceptions . Many of us on TC will know a items true realistic value so when we see something that is obviously overpriced we know it is . However there may be some punter out there who has no clue of the same items value . Who can really blame a seller for being a bit cheeky and trying to get the maximum profit ? Sadly thats human nature to some people

At the end of the day it's worth what someone is prepared to pay.

With fleebay though it's just your luck.I sold mint shelf queen kyosho ultima for just over £90,then a month later a rough as ultima went for £120!!

If someone what's to offer me half that for my technigold motor,I would snap their hand off!

I'm pretty sure eBay is becoming the new way to show off your cars. List it for a ridiculous price which garners a lot of attention. It never sells and there is no fee for a high start price so the seller is out nothing.
