I have an Ansmann Mad Rat and it's quite slow, so I would like to go brushless in it, what's the cheapest fastest setup I can go for?

May put one in the tl-01 aswell if I like the speed!

Cheers!

I am not familiar with Ansmann cars, but your cheapest solution is Hobbyking TrackStar stuff. It is plenty fast and robust enough. For not much more money, you can get a Speed Passion setup though which is a new brand to me, but they are very affordable, and I have found the quality to be on-par with my $300 Tekin combos I have in my race buggies.

LRP, Redline, Novak, Reedy, Tekin, some people love Hobbywing for the lowest price. And personnaly I doesn't go with low turn motor on nylon plastic Tam gear. But i would ratter on god brushed Tamiya motor, some of them are really powerful since the new brushless kit are cheap

TZ, RZ, LightyTuned motor work well and you can keep up with 17,5t brushless guys

fast and driveable :)

in that case a 9t will be ideal . The Mad Rat is quite a light car so it will go like stink on one of those on 2S lipo . it will be driveable but just on the edge of insane - insane fun that is .

My mate runs a 12.5t brushless in his Ansmann Mad Monkey (sibling to the Mad Rat) and it is insanely quick to the point of being all but uncontrollable. He nicknamed his car Dizzy because all it wants to do is spin out and do donuts with all the power it has. He likes it but personally I find it annoying.

The buggy I run against him when we meet for informal races is a slightly hopped-up DT02 Desert Gator with a 17t LRP brushed motor in it. Not quite as quick as Dizzy, it is nonetheless a lot more controllable and usually ends up ahead as a result. Maybe such a setup would suit your needs? Or if you want to go brushless, maybe something around the 17.5t - 13.5t mark? (Or the smaller 9t mentioned above.)

I wouldn't of chosen the Mad rat, a friend gave it to me, I personally prefer 4WD, but may as well run it!

their not bad at all - run it

Before going brushless with the Mad Rat, please have a look if you can find a better replacement (steel of reinforced plastic?) for one of the gears (I guess it's the middle one?) in the gearbox. The stock one is said to be rather weak as far as I've heard.

The Mad Rat is a TeamC design. You can find upgraded parts from the racing car range of TeamC.
