markbt73 5316 Posted July 30, 2015 I did something very foolish just now - I checked the price of this kit. Argh, so cheap, and yet so much more than I have to spend right now... Stop torturing me, Tamiya. It's not nice.

volvotech 101 Posted July 31, 2015 Back in stock on tower. The temptation to buy another is strong.
Truck Norris 2237 Posted July 31, 2015 Couldn't decide between Vaillant Kremer and Jägermeister, solution = do both! Prob won't use the kit supplied shell as it has post holes drilled. These don't.
Wandy 1527 Posted July 31, 2015 Sorry but I'm I missing something here? It's a very nice looking kit (as 99% of tamiya's are) but its just another Porsche rc kit on a OK chassis! and let's face it there ain't a shortage of rc Porsche's to choose from!! Probably just me because I'm not a fan of Porsche I think the most dull high performance car manufacture there is but let's hope we see some good colour schemes on TC because it does look to be a good blank canvas! There are two good reasons why this kit is proving so popular. * The 58172 Taisan Starcard Porsche had become one of the most desired kits to own, very rare and expensive. Although Tamiya have not re-issued the Taisan decals they are very easy to source from aftermarket suppliers. * Not only was the TA02SW a one-off chassis, but the era of the TA01 and TA02 is now long enough ago for these chassis' to be considered a genuinely vintage item. And therefore, much more desirable. It's going to be interesting now to see if Tamiya are moving into the era of 1990's re-releases, and start bringing back more of the TA01 and TA02 cars.
neverfollow 599 Posted July 31, 2015 As well as the TA01/2 started the whole RC touring car genre.

markbt73 5316 Posted August 1, 2015 Has this chassis architecture ever really gone out of production? Between the buggies and the touring cars and the Hummers and the Cayenne-type things, it seems like it has been available constantly since it debuted.
njmlondon 570 Posted August 1, 2015 Has this chassis architecture ever really gone out of production? Between the buggies and the touring cars and the Hummers and the Cayenne-type things, it seems like it has been available constantly since it debuted. You are right it has been around in a variety of guises for a long time, and it is both a capable and robust chassis so it makes sense that it continues to enjoy a long life. It does however make the lack of production of Tamiya hop ups for it all the more puzzling in my mind.
Crash Cramer 617 Posted August 1, 2015 + a MILLION times on the lack of TA01/02 HOP UP PARTS being proliferated all these years as Tamiya has only driven a secondary black market segment that make mortgage payments impossible for me when I want to hop up my old touring cars. I think TOP of the list would be the metal/alloy motor mount followed closely by the suspension pins and then round it out with the rest, oh, I forgot about the lovely wheels they made. I truly screwed up earlier this year not bidding high enough on a retired racer that had the gunmetal grey 7 spoke alloy wheels on it, the wheels did look in great condition and I didn't bid high enough to win. Oh well, some days you get the shaft, others the gold mine.
Dojo Dave 889 Posted August 1, 2015 In 95 BP stations did a promo wher if you saved their coupons when you bought fuel you could get all kinds of goodies. Well I happened to run a Bp station for family at the time. We would offer the coupons if the client didnt want it we would gather them.one of the items you could get was none other than the TA01/02 escort cosworth, I got it, built it, never painted it and then the numpty that I am traded it for a bass guitar in 2001.. guess who's kicking himself now.
