NEW Porsche 911GT2 Club Sport TA02SW

Recommended Posts

Here's a little something I've been working on.

08.27.15%20002_zpsmq8qyy2p.jpg

I have wanted to do this build for over a year now. I had a leftover set of Martini decals from my 911 RSR road car build. The RSR body is substantially bigger so I had to do some creative trimming with the decals to make them fit. I photocopy the decals, trim them and check for placement. This allows me to make cutting templates for the actual decal. Above I used my road car body as a donor for this project.

I’ve made a bit more progress. I trimmed up one of the re-release bodies Tamiya did a few years ago.

I masked the bumpers using vinyl tape.

I sprayed the Tamiya fluorescent red and silver. Now I’m on the arduous task of decal application. It kills me that I had to cut up a NIB set of Taisan decals just for the ones used for the car itself. But at least someone else will be able to put those to use.

Not sure if anyone ha tried this, but I took the TT01 turnbuckle tie rod set (53662) and Tamiya's 5mm ball connector nut, and successfully made adjustable upper control arms. Now front and rear camber is adjustable. About 1mm is needed to be cut off of the turnbuckles on both sides. I assume if you want more range of adjustment, you can cut more or trim down the connecting ends.

I wasn't too fond of the angle here so I swapped the C hubs left to right.

And at the rear:

The same trimming to the turnbuckle was necessary at the rear as it was to the front (1mm off of each side of the turnbuckle).

Thanks again Crash...earlier in the week I was trying to fit a roll cage. I picked one up off eBay, but the angles and lengths weren't right. I tried cutting and glueing..some bending..but it just wasn't coming out right. Maybe I'll figure out how to braze some brake tubing and make my own.

Also today I added some decals to the driver and repainted his gloves & seat belts. The oranges didn't match up right between the spray can and bottle. So he's looking much better now lol.

Where did you get the Sabelt and Sparco decals from? I've got a couple of cockpit sets which have just the generic yellow harness pad stickers so would like some nicer ones.

For the roll cage get some styrene tube from Dorspring Models on eBay. 6mm for the main hoop and 5mm for the rest. You can soften and bend it over a candle or lighter then stick it together with either plastic weld or cement if you spend time getting the joins shaped perfectly, or Shoe Goo works great as a kind of combined filler and glue for a good join without the tubes mating exactly.

To see what the cage should look like you can look for images of the 1:24 static kit of this car - plenty of those show the cage :)

Oh one more tip - if you use a wire coat hanger you can bend that to the shape you need then replicate the angle with the styrene. Saves trial and error and having to re melt it.

To keep on topic here's progress of my body:

Thanks Truck Norris! That's a great tip and I may end up doing it that way. The styrene would be a lot lighter as well.

I used decals from a Tamiya Alfa Romeo set. Originally I was going to use the sponsor decals along the bottom sill, but didn't like them because they had a black background. I paid a lot of money for a decal sheet that I used only 4 decals :(

Don't worry, I am certain someone out there will pay you for what is left on that decal sheet. I don't need them, but SOMEONE does, I am certain of it. Just give it some time.

Yes it appears to be that way. But actually it isn't. It's close, but there are no interference issues (yet). Maybe I need to bend it some more..

Not all the decals are applied yet. I took these shots to show Chris at Rogue elements that he needs to sell a run of his super scale nuts

I hope he does, I know I'd buy a set or three [emoji2]

Where did you buy the wheels ? Awesome Project !

They are made by Kawada and can be bought from ebay.

Hey Shodog, did you do anything to them to make them less chrome and shiny? I like the look of the silver finish with the chrome lip better than the full chrome.

I did nothing to them. These are the satin finish wheels not the chrome ones. I bought them several years ago and pulled them new from the package for this project.

Finished off the decals this afternoon and I love how it turned out. It's a toss on the wheels though. I originally wanted to use the Fuchs but I think it looks toyish and I like the updated look of the Kawada's on the GT2 body a lot better. The Rogue Element nuts give it a realistic look.
