Vintage Futaba Radios (Timeline guide?)

Recommended Posts

THAT along the kid, of course. Haha.

By the way, did you ever got the instruction leaflet for the special pistol accessory for the 2F wheel type transmitter, Chris?

Erich,

NOPE, that guy selling the kit pretty much told me to go jump off a cliff. Actually, he told me to buy his auction and the instructions were included!!!! WOW, what a nice guy. You won't beleive it, but there was an auction that ended not long ago with the radio COMPLETE with the handle on the back, sold for reasonable money considering the offering. It looks to me that it was set up for a left handed driver as that grip would only be usable with the right hand behind the radio. It also looks like a battery blew up inside the can too.

We'll find one, or someone to help with pictures, eventually.

By the way, that's a pretty nice blue Parma pistol accessory there! And at $66 it wasn't too expensive either.

I knew I sent the right person the right link. I don't know how to grab those things much less post them in the forums. I can't figure out how to get the photos I have here onto the forums and I am not ready to get another site involved with sharing my stuff in my computer.

Yep, $66 was a pretty good deal. I think the Parma handle kit alone cost near $20 or $25 BITD. It is ashame the insides of that radio though, pretty crusty.

Since the thread was resurrected (a good thing, that is) I am showing you guys here a couple of images of some of my favorite Futaba radios. (Not mine, sadly)

What's a original Bruiser without one of these?

Anybody remembers the Parma grip to fit the wonderful 2F wheel model? Here's the instructions leaf.

I also like old school ESCs. What about this one? OOoooh I love it!

That's some cool nostalgia right there.

That bruiser radio 'Challenger' - how do they expect you to steer? With the side of your thumb on the wheel (foam?)?

With all five fingers, actually. To use these radios you hang them on your neck with the proper Futaba neck strap.

Isn't it funny how you could buy that smaller 2L transmitter for allowing you to reverse the servos since the old wheeler didn't have that option at all, it was real fun back then to instal the servos and steering and such. I think it is even funnier how that kid on the front cover is holding a very expensive TX for air control instead of the 2L which is being advertised as smaller in size for younger users. Hmmm Futaba, I think your photo guys and your PR guys ought to talk a few more minutes before the layout is finalized.

fwiw pretty sure Futaba also offered "reverse" versions of servos BiTD :) back when they were beige if memory serves

As usual, you are right, they sold reverse servos, maybe in both beige and black, I’d have to look into all my old junk. 🤣
