New Project . In a attempt to build a Scale crawler on a tight budget i'am going to try and convert a Maverick Scout onto a Axial SCX 10 chassis .

The idea is to take the very well priced Maverick and using its TX / RX , ESC , Gearbox , battery and motor while selling off the axles , chassis plate's , shocks ,and wheels to off set the purchase price .

i'll use a set of T rex 60 scale axles i have in my stash from a - for now at least - abandoned project . Their far better looking for a Scaler IMO and very like real Dyna 60 1:1 items as used on many Jeeps and off roaders .

That brings me to the Body - and here's what i'am aiming for .

The new version is a one piece molding but i'll be cutting out the bed and adding the Honcho cage and trail tray - but within the stock side panels to give it a tough look

been wanted to do the same.. build a scale crawler, but i don't wheel the RC I have now too much so it is a tough for me to decide to purchase an SCX-10. I want to use my Clod body on it though..

Actually the Clod body might look quite good on a Stock Maverick Scout . If you want to lower it its just a question of shorter shocks and links .

I agree - the Maverick Scout is a great platform to start building off... am I right in thinking that is is effectively a copy of the original Axial AX10 anyway?

Having essentially a flat chassis top to secure the truck/pick-up body to helps to keep things as low as possible as you say - and shorter shocks can help make the proportions more scale - although ultimately you might end up having to limit travel as the wheels could hit the body on full articulation?

Can't wait to see what you create!

It is a AX10 copy Jenny - and most of the parts are interchangeable . For the money its a real bargain as you get a fully waterproof rig for £118 RTR . Great basis for custom builds . The Maverick body is cheap and nasty but other than that the quality is quite good .

Will be watching to see how this goes - I've also been considering a Scout scaler for quite a while and I've got a brand new Super Clod body to drop onto it. My LHS stocks the scout and although their prices are higher than online I can at least walk in and pick it up.

I've got a set of ladder rails from RC4WD that I bought ages ago, I forget exactly when, and some TLT axles but for a pure street build the Scout axles probably look better?

Once again I find myself considering a leaf-sprung model for extra scales and reduced travel to help clear those fairly tight Clod arches...

good luck with this one - let's see some build pics (including side-by-sides of the Scout and T-Rex axles :) )

How's this project going? I picked myself up a Maverick Scout from the LHS yesterday but still unsure what I'm actually going to do with it... Looks like a good solid truck for basic crawling, might make this my only 2.2 scaler :)

Max it's a good platform to start with but you need to open the axles and the transmission and give it a good lubing! They come bone dry for some reason? Once you've done that it should purr like a kitten 😉

Project is making progress - all be it very slow progress . Delayed waiting for parts from the good old USA . . In a word - Frustrated .

Well if they are traveling through the Northeast they have about 100 inches of snow or close to it.. that has delayed much of the package delivery

that may well be the case . Not so bothered as to the chassis bits but it would be nice to be able to at least get on with the body .
