Good or Bad ??????????????/

Just wondering has any one used a LiPo battery in a car running a brushed motor ?????

If so how is it done ???

As I've heard that it goes realy well for the first few mintues but then burns the motor out , due to the amount of current it can deliver to the motor.

total rubbish . The motor will and can only draw the current it requires . As long as your gearing is correct then the motor will be perfectly ok . Only thing's you need to ensure is that your ESC is lipo compatable and if not use a cheap lipo alarm . 2S will be perfect .

Yarp.. I use Lipo's with my Brushed motors all the time... just have the right ESC and enjoy..

I still limit my drive durations to 10-15 mins and then top up charge... but that's just me I think.

i intend running my scaler on lipo . Brushed motor and with a 5000 2S i should get well over a hours run with decent motor temps .

Forgot to say I always run with a low voltage buzzer in mine.

Brom, I usually fit a similar Turnigy hardcase 5000mah 2S lipo in my SXC10 with a 50T brushed motor and go trail driving/crawling all over Leith Hill near me. On a full charge I've been going non stop for well over 90mins and still had plenty of charge left when I got back to the car park (each cell showing about 3.84v left!) so no way near the cut off point.

do any of you use an additional lipo cutoff? I have a few tble-02s esc's that I'd like to run with lipo, but I believe they don't have a lipo cutoff so wondering if a lipo cutoff is worth the money?

yes they are - however a lipo alarm works fine as long as you shut down once it activates .

sound thats what i wanted to hear . The idea is that i can talk the dog for a hour or so while running the SCX 10

If you're using the Scout motor you'll probably get longer run times as its closer to 65t I think :) Hard to say for sure as they don't quote its specs anywhere I could find. It is a decent torquey motor though.

Seems like it - i test ran the drivetrain last night and i'am impressed .

I've been using a 2s lipo on my brushed ta03f pro runner with a novak auto shut off. Even on a silver can it scoots along plenty fast, on the black sports tuned it's just as fast as some of my brushless cars. And I usually drive myself to boredom before the cutoff kicks in. I've used lipo alarms on some of my other runners without any issues as well. The main thing is making sure you charge your packs to storage voltage when you're done, otherwise you risk damaging them.

You will struggle to find a standalone lipo-cutoff module, Novak make one I believe. The reason being that most modern ESC's will have it built-in (Tamiya aside). A cheap alarm is fine, you'll struggle to not hear it, and it can usually be programmed to sound at a pre-set voltage, well within the safe limit of your LiPo battery.

Thanks guys for the feedback as I just heard some horror storys.

I've running the following Tamiya cars and ECS

The Frog -TBLE-02s

Subaru Brat -TBLE-02s

FAV-TEU -105BK

Wild Willy 2 -TBLE-02s

They all have the standard motor that came in the kit.

Can I ask how you secure the battery on your TA03? I can't fit the battery retaining clips with my lipos because they are too big and the cables clash with the plastic :(

^I use the carbon middle deck/battery holder and route cable ties around the battery. It's actually quite sturdy, I've had a few good wrecks and everything's managed to stay put.

That pic was taken when the car was taken out of retirement and getting setup with new electronics. I'll have to snap a current pic.

Motor will get warmer, as lipo will hold voltage way better under acceleration and will last longer. You will notice a substantial speed improvement but also a hotter motor.

lipo alarm seems the only answer to non lipo ESC'S

Our do what I do and don't run an alarm. To be clear, I don't recommend this, but I'm very experienced with my cars and electronics so I know when to stop.
