I was thinking about getting a 4WD aswell, but a buggy, they seem a bit more stable than touring cars.

The Lancia is a great looking car though, I think it's a bit pricey for what you get for your money.

I might end up with a buggy but I love the Lancia look.

XV-01 gets my vote. If only I had the terrain to use one I'd be over it like a rash. Was close to a long damper version but still think I'd struggle for clearance!

I have lots of Tarmac and an AstroTurf pitch at work to play with, plus an indoor sports hall if I choose. They only issue is if I am on my own it might be a bit boring, I think buggy bashing or crawling can be done solitary better than flat racing

Buggies are more versatile than rally cars on the whole, so you'd probably get more use out of a buggy, but if you have the funds for both, rally cars have a charm of their own. As per standard Tamiyaclub advice, get one of each! :)

Here's a clip of my TT02 on shortish grass.

It's the chassis for my Lancia Delta Intergrale so its on the highest ground clearance setting but mods could take it higher.

Have you considered the TT-02B? I don't know a lot about yet myself but it looks like a good one

It is indeed. I have one fitted with a 13.5t and it runs superbly!

XV-01 would be my choice, it just seams like it would handle like the real car. I just ordered my first XV-01 with the impreza body. I am going to make it look just like my wife's car.

A bit af an aside here: Is it a 4WD that you want, or a rally car? Since not all rally cars are 4WD. For example, last weekend I took my M06 Renault Alpine out for a very satsfying run on tarmac, gravel and short grass, and it was brilliant, lots of fun to drive, and really capturing the look of a classic rally car too with its detailed shell.

I want a rally car but I am also missing a fast 4wd and I do not have room for both at the moment so thought I would combine.

I did look in to the M06 but a lot of reviews said it was hard to drive

It is a bit hard to drive - nowhere near as hard to drive as its predecessor the M-04, but still trickier than a 4WD. However like the M-04, it really comes into its own when it hits the rough stuff, where the handling quirks stop being frustrating and instead become fun. Mine runs longer shocks, Rally Block tyres and a diff full of thick grease, and it works a charm!

Just get an XV01! I have driven every Tamiya rally chassis and I can confirm that the xv handles the best, you can get some lurid powerslides going and bring it back every time! Worst handling for me is the TB01,and that thing gets rocks wedged in the steering every 2 minutes. . TT chassis aint a patch on the xv either.

I was in the same position a while back, I considered both a rally car and a buggy and ended up with a xv-01. I bought it because it had great reviews it looked like a nice build. I use on mine on gravel, grass, dirt and tarmac. I have repeatedly jump my buggy ramp in anger and it's still in one piece. But now I'm in the market for a 4wd buggy and I think I will be pulling the trigger on a tt-02b buggy for a new model. So if your anything like me you will just buy both anyways :). Not necessarily those models but you get my drift.

I'm in the market for a 4wd as well after a four year hiatus from this hobby. I'm definitely maybe getting a Neo Scorcher TT-02B

The TT-02B was top of my list after VX Pilots build thread but I thought I could combine the 4WD thing and the real looking car thing in to one buy. Looking at prices I could get a TT-02b and a carpet car for the price of an XV anyway
