I think I need a 4WD to add to my collection (have a CC01 and Wild Dagger to build but they do not count)

Not sure if I should jump to a buggy or a more road based car. I have a few 2WD buggys so I guess a car would be better.

I love the Lancia Delta shell so that gives me TT01, TT02, DF-03RA and VX-01 as options. My driving skills are not great but that has never stopped me buying more models.

What is the forums opinion?

XV-01 maybe - The rally version will cope with most surfaces .If it was myself i would be looking at the most modern chassis with a almost fully enclosed drivetrain - hence the XV is the logical choice .

TBH that was my first choice. I was just asking in case someone could convince me a TT01 with a couple of hop-ups was far better.

I have both the XV01 and TT02 rally cars and the XV01 is by far the better car. It handles better, it is fully enclosed and seems less prone to breakages.

I dont have a DF03ra but do have a df03 buggy and think the XV01 is a better chassis than this.

How much money are you going to have to chuck at a TT-01 and get it up to XV-01 level ? i'd just buy the XV

One going here at a good price if your quick

TT-02B was good for me across the surfaces you mentioned.

My road cars (which have both been converted to drift now) seemed to only like smooth surfaces.

My rally cars are still NIB...

I think my 2p here is the TT-02B

Whenever I see these polls and the XV01 is mentioned, I say get it. It is a wonderful and very capable car.

my exact thoughts . Modern design with all the advances that have being made in recent years . i have yet to see a poor review of it . With the lancia body and the rally block tires it just looks ' right ' too

£160 plus the chance you will be stung with customs charges isn't cheap. I would pay the extra £10 and buy it from modelsport.

Fair point - never thought to check with Modelsport

I've not driven the modern rally variants but I doubt a TT01 or TT02 will cope with short grass or astroturf unless they're on bigger buggy wheels (TT02B for example). Touring chassis are really only meant for smooth tarmac or carpet.

My old TB01RA works pretty well on loose gravel but on short grass it gets hung up. It's a very old design compared to the DF03RA or XV01 tho, so maybe they've improved.

I have had a Lancia on a TA01/2, TT-01 and XV01 and simply put the XV01 wins hands down in every single way.

However I sold my XV01 because I just do not seem to get on with belt-drives.

My Lancia shell is now on a £60 TB-01 chassis that I bought off ebay and it is perfect. it is cheap as you can get, incredibly strong, fully enclosed and with modern Lipo and tuned motors the weight is more than compensated for. So my vote would be get yourself a TB-01 and pick up a Lancia body separately.

i would have never have considered the TB-01 but i guess your right . As you say its a strong and reliable chassis that can handle the rough stuff no problem . My vote still go for the XV-01 though as i'am told they handle like a dream .

£161 from fusion with club discount sounds good to me. Will scout a few reviews and make a choice, it will join the queue of unbuilt projects

The XV-01 sounds like a great chassis, and it would take quite a bit of modding for a TT-01/TT-02 to rival it. However if you enjoy the building and modding side of the hobby, this is an argument in their favour rather than against them.

My rally chassis of choice is a modded TT-01. Having not driven an XV-01, I cannot say if it is superior, or even of a similar standard, but from the rally meets I used to attend, I know it has the beating of rally cars based on the TB-01, TL-01, DF-03RA and TA-02 platforms. It took a fair bit of modding to get it to this point, but that was part of the fun.

So yes, the XV-01 is probably the superior chassis, but is it the superior hobby experience? I am not so sure. You might get more satisfaction out of taking an underdog chassis such as a TT-01/02, and modding it to take on the big guns. I know I did! :)

Good point. I know the TT's are a lot cheaper and 99% replaceable with hop ups. Maybe I need to wait and see what comes up at the best offer first and jump with that, over thinking is not my strong point

I was thinking about getting a 4WD aswell, but a buggy, they seem a bit more stable than touring cars.

The Lancia is a great looking car though, I think it's a bit pricey for what you get for your money.

XV-01 gets my vote. If only I had the terrain to use one I'd be over it like a rash. Was close to a long damper version but still think I'd struggle for clearance!

As luck would have it i stumbled across the perfect place to run one while walking the dog last weekend . Local country park with all the foot paths made from very fine crushed brick . Just like a gravel stage lol

iv not got a "car" that will run on short grass I have a TA01/TA02 I think the ground clearance on the TT range is about the same, so I would also go with the XV01.
