Racing Truck chassis ?

Other than an M03 Mini I've only ever built monster/wheelie trucks. Inspired by some of the cool builds I've seen on here and elsewhere, I fancy building something different. I'm particularly taken by this kind of thing :

I've got a Unimog shell already but those Bruder truck cabs look like a cheap way forward too.

What would be a good basic chassis for me to use to build an on-road racing/drift truck ? I can't get my head round all the chassis variants, all the talk of TL-01, TT-02, TA-03 etc is just white noise to me. I'm guessing the M01-6 might be too small ?

Not bothered about ultimate performance/handling, having it look right is at least as important. Need something flexible - don't want to buy something that then limits me in terms of what wheels I can fit or that's difficult to get parts for etc. But I'm happy to adapt or modify it as required, I think that some of these chassis lend themselves better to that than others ?

Cheap is good (obviously) but i just want to buy the right thing. Ta.

Bruder 1/14 cabs look ok on 190mm wide chassis (most Tamiya 1/10 4x4)

Your best bet would be get the body then find a chassis that'll go under it

I'd agree with Twinset - buy the shell, then decide on what wheel-base you want which will in turn help dictate what chassis to go for?

If you're on a budget, then perhaps a TL-01 would be a good bet, as they can be run either 4x4 or rear wheel drive (to be authentic) and the chassis itself is nice & narrow and box-shaped, so while it's not a traditional live axle, it could be made to look pretty realistic at the rear with the addition of a pair of chassis rails perhaps?

I think if you want it to drift, then you need to be aiming for a good drifting chassis and then make the body fit that. TBH the body is just an add on and could be anything as long as the wheel base is about right. What's the wheelbase on your Unimog? I'd be tempted to get something that fits that, use the Unimog for racing and then make up the hardbody Bruder for looking good.
