A box of parts Muscle Truck.. The Odd Job

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

So I have this old HPI E10 chassis, an even older 5.5t Brushless motor/esc, some Proline dirt hawgs and a Proline Ford pickup body.

I'm going for wide and low but haven't decided on colour or details yet.

Starting point;

First up is to get the chassis running.

Cheers.

So decided to do some work on the body tonight,

(Apologies for the terrible photos, not sure what is going on there)

IMAG1471_zpssiqmgsdn.jpg

Obviously this body is way to narrow to tuck the wheels up under the guards,

IMAG1473_zps0smuzqcx.jpg

IMAG1472_zps9zst41xi.jpg

Rear guards removed, The top of the tire will sit level with the top of the tray when its done. need to sand the cut also

IMAG1475_zpsvnrfn9vf.jpg

IMAG1474_zpsfzk3aawt.jpg

I think the removed guards could look cool sitting on the tray in a different colour like a freshly purchased spare set.

Next up is to start on the front guards which are going to get huge over fenders.

Thanks for looking,

Brenden.

Got the time for wee bit more,

Had to trim the front bumper to allow for the body to fit and to get full steering lock

IMAG1476_zpsb9r4xif0.jpg

Found it hard to decide how to trim up the front, in the end i went for the squared off look. It still needs a bit more to get the ride height right but I am hesitant to chop in to the bonnet.

How it's looking now

Cut the rear body posts and got some decent pics to show where its heading, can't decide on over fenders or not..

Starting to ponder paint also, atm I'm thinking either;

- Bright orange / red with white pint stripe

- Rusted out matt black

- Slight patina light green

Cheers,

Brenden.

Since the loose rear guards on the loadbed suggest a work in progress, how about a combo scheme? Some panels in matt black to represent primer, some panels in other colours as they may have been salvaged from other vehicles, etc?

Looking good, i'd say no over fenders and have the wheels / tyres exposed fully

Just my opinion, but I get bored with the beater look. I agree with the exposed tires look suggested by Kevin

Hi All,

A little bit more progress, electronics are in. I still want to dremel a bit off the battery holder and put the receiver there though.

IMAG1544_zpsy0ob5tze.jpg

I gave it a quick test but the pinion slipped off the spur with the first hit of the throttle, I have since reset it and tightened it up but have yet to re-test it.

I have gone back and forth on the over fenders but I have settled on 'half' over fenders just to cover the tires a bit

If you look carefully they are there on the left hand side for comparison.

IMAG1546_zpsbygumqxt.jpg

Guards still need some work to make them fit

IMAG1547_zpskscuxvru.jpg

Also had an old willy driver that I didn't feel like painting so made a shirt and trousers instead.

IMAG1549_zpsfkkske5g.jpg

Hopefully I can have the body ready for paint soon.

Cheers All.

Finished up the trim for the front guards, plenty of clearance now and super low ride height. You guys were right, better without the over fenders! The body seems to flow now as the front and rear guards are trimmed into the body the same amount and the cab is the widest part.

Willy scored himself a seat! He will be nicely perched on the battery holder but there is a fair bit of trimming to make it work.

He also needs an operation on his right arm so both hands are on wheel.

Next up is to finish the final sand around the rest of the body, then onto a few more details, bonnet vent and roll cage.

Cheers.

Got started on the front vent, still needs a good tidy up and the inner section built to channel air directly onto the heat sink. Should keep things a bit cooler on those back to back car park sessions :D

Started mocking up the cage, was thinking of running it through the rear window and through out the cab. not 100% decided though, what do you reckon?

Like the roll cage - would be neat if it goes right through the cab, I guess that depends on how much work you want to put in to a "box of parts" truck tho ;)

Should look properly aggressive with some paint on.

Agreed, bring the cage through to the cab.

Love the bonnet vent, that's a brilliant idea

It certainly looks different - I haven't seen lines like this before.

Cage-through-cab would be tricky, but cool if you can pull it off. Good luck!
