Has anybody ever noticed that vintage Tamiyas seem to appear on ebay in waves, normally without any obvious reason why.

Several weeks ago there were 8 or 9 Wild Willy M38's (almost all of them SWB) on ebay.co.uk and I have noticed that they have all gone now.

But now there are lots of original Holiday Buggies and Sand Rovers which I have not seen for a while.

I wonder why it works like this?

I have noticed the same thing..

The only reason I can come up with is that a particular model will sell on eBay for a good price, and other eBay sellers decide that it would be a good time to list their model, and see if they could also get a good price for theirs.. Rarely does it work that way though..

The same seems to happen with collectable bikes.

I thought vintage Tamiyas came in waves due to currents and wind patterns over oceans! Shows what I know :P

I do agree with Backlash's view, though - it may have less to do with insider information than flashes of opportunity presenting themselves with sales of similar items. eBay does have a feature for such sales, too.

That would make sense if you saw one then the following week 2 more... but often I see 3 or 4 all put up at the same time. Odd

I'm not necessarily seeing them in waves here in the States, but the ridiculous prices/starting bids people are asking for beat-up relics. Good lord, take for instance a Grasshopper II that's up for auction right now. Starting bid is $125 for a rolling chassis. A NIB body set for one just went for $150.

I can tell you that I paid $30 six months ago for a Rolling Super G, $45 for a good solid Stock GHII in good nick and $75 for a NIB body set a year ago.

People be cray

I'm just going to stay in these classifieds if I need another project

Could be certain times of the year when people are strapped for cash or need money for things like before Christmas for presents or after christmas to pay credit cards back. Then there's new re-re's that come out and tempt people to get rid of their current cars to buy new ones...who knows really...

Like someone said in another post..the re-re's may sway interest in original vintage cars or create more interest in ones that have'nt been re-re'd yet..like the sand scorcher and rough rider being re-re'd first so interest became higher with the Super Champ.

I have done that in the past.

How much! I have 2 of those!

Before I know it I am taking pics and listing.

Paid for my brushless set up.

Keep waiting for the price of some cars to go up,have a schumacher fusion, but they seem to be only going for £60-70 complete rtr,it can be a man cave ornament at that money and only play out once a year.

Sometimes when there is talk of a re-re of a certain model, some folks get a little paranoid and sell off their originals in the fear that the value of their originals will fall. Seen this happen many times... For example, when sneak peaks of the Buggy Champ at a Hobby Fair first started circulating, Japanese collectors started selling their Rough Riders and very soon they were all over ebay. Same thing with the Avantes, FAVs, Foxes, etc.

Then there are times when someone starts a thread in a forum and it leads to speculation. I remember a few years ago there was a thread on the next high profile re-re from Tamiya being "something big" and some people thought it could be a Bruiser, others thought it could be the Clod Buster. So perhaps someone somewhere started a thread on some forum about the Wild Willy M38 being re-issued on the original chassis.

Now that I would love.
