My dad may have a small Slot Car problem...

Recommended Posts

Recently helped my dad make a display unit for 'most' of his slot car collection. When I say most, there are still an awful lot of these things on the opposite wall, either still in their boxes or part of a limited edition with display boxes...

There's room for 400 cars on the display, pretty much anything you could wish for is there - and if it isn't, he probably has one elsewhere...

It's in alphabetical order by manufacturer. There are an awful lot of Ford Escorts!

How many Astons?!!

There's a full fleet of JGTC cars too - Skylines, NSXs, Supras - it's like Gran Turismo all over again.

A handful of them are mine - they're just kept at my dads, since I don't have a track anyway.

I can relate to your dad's collection. I "USED" to have my static 1:43 collection on display and whenever i go there, i would take a car out one at a time and enjoy the details of it. But now is all boxed up. :(

Cool collection , what is the oldest one there?

I have no idea - dad collects anything he likes rather than items of value / collectable - a good philosophy I reckon. That's not to say there aren't some cars there which have steadily increased in price though!

I think the oldest would be the two cars he had in his first ever scalextric set - not the originals, but ones he has sought to replace / restore for sentimental reasons. I'd have to check what those are!

That is awesome!!!

Does your Dad have a track set up? Also, I'm guessing yes but are there any Capri's in that collection you can post pics of?

Back in the early 90's I was offered a complete competition slot-car track for free. 8 lanes I believe. It was huge and came in big chunks. I only ever saw it in stacked a garage.

And, of course, I would have needed an entire garage to store the thing myself and I was not into slot-cars. I wonder what happened to it.

But OTOH it could have led me down the same path as your dad. What a collection! :)

Track is still a work in progress, needs better accessories and a solution for some grass (just painted for now) If anyone has any recommendations I'd be grateful.

Yes there are Capri's - I'll try to remember some pictures when I'm next there.

Nice setup! I think hobby shops selling model railroad supplies should have grass mats in varying scales that can be laid down for a more convincing effect.

That is a stunning collection!

I'd love a track permanently set-up somewhere, just don't have the room!

These guys build some awesome tracks

A friend of mine built a track in the back of his VW Caddy that folded away, I have some pictures somewhere.

Your dad doesn't have a slot car problem, he just has a dusting problem! That's is an amazing collection.
