Wez-li 1790 Posted May 3, 2015 Brilliant work. I've got the space for something like that, just don't have the time, money or skill
ukfox 347 Posted May 3, 2015 To be honest it wasn't that hard to build. You need a flat level base, if the base isn't level the logs won't slot together properly. The flooring joists need to be square and level. (I used joists bigger than was supplied as i didn't build it on a flat concrete base) You fix the 1st starting wall logs down,They have to be perfectly square to each other. The walls logs then just slot together. After about 3 logs high you place the door frame in, then continue to build the walls, same with the windows. My Build had inner walls with 70mm insulation board in-between, so I had to lay the floor before i could build the inner walls( inner walls are built onto of the floor boards. I had to fit the floor insulation betwean the joists before the floor boards The apex sections of the roof came premade so it was just a case of laying them on the wall top. Roof was like doing the floor, lay board to board till you cover the area. ( I also had insulation to fit on the roof) Then I used Shingles on the roof, instead of felt window frames are premade just have to fit glass. Doors also premade and after hanging them correctly, so they close right, I fitted the Glass. They advised it takes 2 men 3 days to build. I did this on my own and considering it was a double skin wall, It took me 6 days, well 7 if you allow for wood treatment to dry
Grastens 2795 Posted May 4, 2015 Nice work! I built part of a shed once, helping my father assemble one of these kits. My main task was to cut the subflooring bits down and help create a level surface for the foundations, which gets surprisingly hard without a compactor! My archaeological dig skills I learned from high school extracurriculars were shockingly useful those days!
Tamiyabigstuff 830 Posted May 4, 2015 Well, you say you are not a builder but I don't see anything wrong ! Very fine work if you ask me. That is a very nice quality building - liking the insulated walls a lot, type of thing I would go for now but these were not around when I got my 16x8 many years ago...mind you, it only cost me £100 secondhand.

mr crispy 2293 Posted May 6, 2015 Great build, did you run any leccy into it? I need to do something similar as our shed is about to fall over its so old 😉 Been trying to convince the wife to let me build my own design. That way if I expand it we could have a shed/workshop/summer house so I'd get somewhere nice to do my hobbies and she'd get somewhere to set out her drum kit!
ukfox 347 Posted May 6, 2015 Thanks for the positive comments. I have run a SWA cable in to it, still got to connect it up. Need to build the desks first, so i can hide the cabling The electrics are the easiest part for me, I am a Qualified Electrician
mongoose1983 3335 Posted May 11, 2015 My question is do you plan to get all of your RC related stuff there, or you will also get some other things or hobby items there, like music, or toys and such. I mean, like a man cave with records, and posters?
ukfox 347 Posted May 16, 2015 Today i have fitted a fuse box, and livened up the feeder cable. Still got to do the power sockets and lighting. Have started to build the desks with storage, also going to build some display shelving I will be using this as my RC car room, so just RC related stuff
ukfox 347 Posted May 30, 2015 update, have been building the desk and the shelving/ display cabinet. Klausen 1197 Posted May 31, 2015 This looks great. Would love some more space for my cars.
ukfox 347 Posted June 22, 2015 Today I have added the television. Still waiting on the perspex for the doors to the display cabinet. Seems I have too much stuff as still need more display shelving. Think I might have to thin out my collection a little, as the boxes on top are nib kits EDIT Have removed images of cars, have been advised to do so for Security
Dojo Dave 889 Posted June 23, 2015 Today I have added the television.Wheres the television? backtomyroots 432 Posted June 23, 2015 Super cabin ! What's the silver item holding up your trucks on the top shelf ? Looks like the perfect "jack stands".
ukfox 347 Posted June 23, 2015 The tv is on the wall in the far right picture, above the dremel box (you can see the advert for domestos bleach ) The item I use to keep my cars off the shelf " to protect the tyres " is clear acrylic tube cut to length think they are about 45mm long Think they are about right in holding the buggy tyres off the ground. and being a round tube, they fit around the bottom of the differential pumpkins on the high lift axles. I have some more in the order of perspex, that i am waiting on.
ChrisRx718 4464 Posted June 23, 2015 This is so awesome. There's a topic on the pistonheads forums at the moment about hobby space, if you posted I'm sure there would be even more green-eyed onlookers! I hate to think of it, but how secure is it? I'd be so concerned about the safety of the models in what is effectively a very plush shed! Is it alarmed?
ukfox 347 Posted June 24, 2015 The doors and windows are double glazed units. so very secure. also added better bolts to the door CCTV on the back of the house, keeps an eye on the garden
jeekelemental 528 Posted June 25, 2015 To build it here in Italy you should make a pile of paper... I have a question: where's the fridge for beers?
Finman 69 Posted June 25, 2015 What a fantastic build! I need one of these. What size is it and do you have a link to where you got it from? Rich
ukfox 347 Posted June 25, 2015 The cabin is from a company called duster house its the premium plus severn 5m x 3m https://dunsterhouse.co.uk/premium-severn-w5-0m-x-d3-0m I added the double glazed doors and windows, the thicker thickness floor and thicker roof. also have insulated the floor, walls and roof. Walls are 130mm thick as they have 70mm insulation in them and went for the shingles on the roof. It wasn't cheap I don't drink, so don't need the Beer fridge. Ohh today I finally added the perspex to the front of the display cabinets, so my cars should now stay dust free On a security issue, I have taken down the photos that show my cars.
Finman 69 Posted June 25, 2015 Thanks. That's a great site, I can see how the price goes up with all the options. Now to get planning. Rich
