On the doorstep...it's all nicely wrapped...can't wait to see what hiding under all that wrapping. Finally get her out and unwrapped and she has a firm chassis that I can't wait to get to know better. Pity it a scruffy old Beach..that needs a complete scrub down and overhaul. But the sub frame is amazing and you can see how beautiful she was when she was younger...lol sorry got carried away there for a moment...

Here's some pics...

Keep an eye on this spot I'm looking forward to her makeover...
And as she is my first SRB.....probably some advice too.

Nikko front wheels, Kyosho rear tires on aftermarket Hornet/Frog wheels... sometimes I miss the days of "whatever fits, use it." Looks like a good project.

Excellent purchase!

Our good friend markbt73 is correct. The rear aftermarket wheels were made by CRP in California. If you sell the rear Kyosho tires alone I believe you'll be able to buy a new set of tires and wheels for that lovely Ford.

Again, congrats on finding such beautiful Tamiya. :)

Before the rere's hit the scene, I believe you've got what we'd call a "find"! Rear cage looks complete - radio box doesn't look too bad either (apart from the drill holes) and the front coilovers look interesting.

Just don't try to run it with those front tyres! :D

Dave,

Didn't you say you were going to pass on this hot mess?

Glad you picked her up and breathe some new life into this ole gal. ;)

Good grief, really? I have a pair that look brand new. I should start a "for sale" thread on here...

Well, who knows if there is someone here in TC in need of those. Kyosho haven't re-released those tires, and they belong to the 1984 1:12 Datsun stepside pick-up which is a model that is not easy to find at all.

My German buddy Christian, who used to go here in TC as Dante77, used them on his fantastic Sand Rover (see: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=113621&sid=19357)

Here's a picture of the original model:

Looks like a good base for a restore to runner. Which way are you going to go on the body;keep the XLT or go with a SS or RR body? A minor correction to whats posted above, the rear wheels were made by Proline and not CRP. Front coil overs look like ones from CRP.

Not sure, I think I'm going to get the Chassis as good as I can and set it on some wheels then think body.. I like the SS. And the Shell Is something I can get pretty easy on the EBay.. However an original Ranger that could be nice too.. heck maybe both... we'll see.

Some shiny metal new stock front springs, ordered bearings, new shock bushings, and new front bumper.... bearings tomorrow I hope... silicon for the gearhousing or a caulk. Whats best? Input please!

So looking over the Ranger body last night and the hood is split right up the middle, I'm thinking tamiya plastic putty as then some shaping and sanding, I found a tinted front Window looks like its ou of a Blackfoot, I think I use it to replace the original as thas all corroded and cracking....If someone else wants this Ranger Body before I start let me know as I would hate to mess it up for someone who can do a better job than me...

I have decided to give restoring the Ranger body a go.. I don't see how I could make it much worse.... Well I have a knack for making things worse this however I truly want to get right. First off smooth off the roof as the moon roof is awful and then there is the hood crack, first as little contact cement then some plastic putty, more putty required I'm sure but right now I'll go steady 725bd426782fe21365b64355e7517ec9.jpg40f7ea21753dde3fae547193594b48c7.jpg

c0d92a6cd5cf59db055493fbe8d793ee.jpgYou really see all the imperfections with the silver, I will have to sand a little more and fill the little holes. I know some of you are probably screaming tight now but. Such is life.

Give it a very light coat of black, as you sand you will see where the black is left and where to fill

Thanks, so is it considered sacrilege to paint these?

Not a clue, I am a basher not a collector. I have painted a lot of old bikes though and a dust coat really helps see imperfections when sanding

I like all my cars to run, this one Ranger is my first rare rework...and I guess because someone offered to buy it before I started I really dont want to mess it up too too bad.. lol
