Inline with my new ethos off doing the body first i gave this an hour or so today

Going with Frog ish White over Pink

Not a perfect job but I want a basher I am not worried about running, my driving is appaling.

Little rough from the tape

Radio Control Car Action has a great article in the July 2015 issue on the new DT-03 Aqroshot and the Neo Fighter Buggy is also mentioned:

05.17.2015-15.31.png

I'm not sure I'm too keen on the DT-03 chassis so I'm really looking forward to your build and driving impressions. Subbed. ;) You didn't mask the windows? Are there stickers for blacked out windows like with the Desert Gator or do you just not care about clear/translucent windows given it's basher status?

There are black window stickers in the kit. This might get Aqroshot wheels by the end of the build but I will try stock first.

Well tonight's project was

SAM_2219_zpshf4e2vub.jpg

And an hour later. Not all 100% straight but not bad.

I chose my own locations, I am not a numbers fan so thought I would mix it up a bit.

Couple of nights work. I am working on delayed gratification and trying not to build all in one go.

I have had this for a while so have amassed a few hop-ups

SAM_2222_zpstewke06j.jpg

SAM_2223_zpsi6bbuf6f.jpg

First things first, the boat like chassis

SAM_2224_zpscvzo7qjn.jpg

SAM_2225_zpsbjwu7zoc.jpg

Spongy stuff to hold battery I guess

SAM_2227_zpsqqak5ey8.jpg

Must have forgotten to take a pic of the finished article

Front mounts. Shame there is no alloy hop-up for these

SAM_2230_zpsqkth9mep.jpg

Next, Servo

SAM_2228_zpsxws1sg3m.jpg

First hop-up. Alloy servo mount

SAM_2229_zpshqytglnj.jpg

SAM_2231_zpsq2ad1fxl.jpg

SAM_2232_zpspnui3znt.jpg

Lets do it again with a bit of thread lock

SAM_2233_zpsgnoj2fdc.jpg

End of day one.

Lets put the servo mount in

SAM_2235_zpspykyvz24.jpg

SAM_2238_zpsid7i4qim.jpg

Next hop-up, turnbuckle kit

SAM_2236_zpsx3cur0pu.jpg

SAM_2237_zpswgqftvae.jpg

Lower arms

SAM_2239_zpsxv9rtvhd.jpg

SAM_2240_zpsmlalrbgf.jpg

SAM_2241_zpsz6jhaggu.jpg

Upper arms not going on

SAM_2242_zpsvmtymapb.jpg

Instead we will fit

SAM_2243_zps0bxtroee.jpg

Next hop-up. Suspension Shafts. I will not need the top ones because I am running turnbuckles so I though I would use them on the pivot. Good idea?

SAM_2243_zps0bxtroee.jpg

SAM_2245_zpsevuoin97.jpg

Lots of gap here. I remember this from my DT-02.

SAM_2246_zpswfzamfio.jpg

Spacer kit I had in stock. 0.5mm and things are a lot less sloppy

SAM_2247_zpsjijqjwhv.jpg

SAM_2248_zpsivpt9cjq.jpg

More shims for the lower arm

SAM_2249_zpscnaxs2nj.jpg

SAM_2251_zps4rjhfki9.jpg

The only issue is I need to go back to the U shaft on the other end and shim that. I know this is not a top notch racer but I want to take out as much play as possible

End of today's playing

SAM_2252_zpstxb80gou.jpg

Gearbox next and I have still not decided about Diff or drive shafts

The tub is a very tough plastic. I am thinking it will be much of a muchness on the toughness front. Longer wheelbase is supposed to help handling but I am a bad driver so I will never notice. To be honest I a wasting my time with the shimming but it is fun.

At some point I'm going to need a "loaner" car for my kids friends who will inevitably want to join us at the track. The novice classes are run-what-ya-brung so it doesn't have to be a racer. It just has to withstand the punishment that a true novice will inflict.

I noticed you bought a CVA hop-up shock kit, aren't they included in the kit??

Nice bodywork.

They are but I robbed them to use on my DT-01. I have a set of Absima dampers I was going to use but I am happy with the CVAs on my DT-02 so I think I will run with them again.

No building this weekend, Lincoln beer festival will get in the way.

So I had to shim the U fastener to take out all the play. The casting marks leave a little step so I whipped that off with a little 400 paper and put some 1mm shims

SAM_2253_zpsoljpgfhb.jpg

SAM_2254_zpsaq4rl47a.jpg

Gearbox next, I am going to build this stock for now with just TRF putty.

Sports tuned and steel pinion

SAM_2255_zpsk1bl8hoo.jpg

SAM_2256_zpstlc4c8bh.jpg

SAM_2257_zpsywt9ms9g.jpg

Rear lower arms

SAM_2259_zpsno8lnroo.jpg

Shimmed like front

SAM_2260_zpss6rdqm4o.jpg

SAM_2261_zpsswza4chp.jpg

Done

SAM_2262_zpsbi27ubsc.jpg

Hexes and more shims

SAM_2263_zpscimvkqsf.jpg

0.6mm takes all the play out

SAM_2264_zps5uof2sqx.jpg

I am totally happy with the driveshafts and cups, they seem to limit travel quite a bit. Will ***** again when the shocks are on

Another day

SAM_2265_zpsn6hwfan9.jpg

Different mounting for the DT-03 from the DT-02

SAM_2266_zpsvwsoxoin.jpg

Another hop up. Not sure if these add value or not

SAM_2267_zpsqhmwulgu.jpg

SAM_2268_zpsaxg4hene.jpg

Interesting mounting system.

SAM_2269_zpsi9oh1stc.jpg

SAM_2270_zps24pheysn.jpg

Shock towers next

SAM_2271_zpswlfkzenh.jpg

But not the plastic ones. Total waste of money but looks nice

SAM_2272_zpsrxkh5qeh.jpg

SAM_2273_zpsxfxsii6o.jpg

SAM_2274_zps4qhnzzol.jpg

SAM_2275_zpsqrppl0yk.jpg

Arrrrgh, brass!!!! WHY!

SAM_2276_zpsaxuhpug8.jpg

Super glue needs wiping off but it was not 100% dry

SAM_2277_zpsrhwbehyn.jpg

Just like CSI the fumes bring out finger prints

SAM_2278_zpsjzsntmm8.jpg

No time to build shocks so straight to wheels

SAM_2279_zpstnffjxdd.jpg

Shimmed

SAM_2280_zps0fq6wyna.jpg

Not finished but had to be done

SAM_2281_zps8exijfpj.jpg

SAM_2282_zpsuq4efhbn.jpg

SAM_2283_zpsgpihw1pu.jpg

Shocks tomorrow...... Then some electrics :)

Posted

OK just shocks tonight...

SAM_2284_zpsbjvhmejt.jpg

Optional dampers, I had robbed the originals out for another build.

SAM_2285_zpssvvqaje1.jpg

I run the red springs on my DT-02 and like them so I thought would start with them. Light LiPo pack helps keep weight down

Everything I need

SAM_2287_zps86aadv1e.jpg

Black coating is not very smooth

SAM_2289_zpseopivqt6.jpg

Bit of paper for polishing off

SAM_2290_zps5txfo7p8.jpg

Shiny

SAM_2291_zpsdxs1f07q.jpg

All filled

SAM_2292_zpshaquif4f.jpg

Fitted

SAM_2293_zpsd7uf7i0l.jpg

Last hop up. Totally pointless but nice looking

SAM_2294_zpswnwsembw.jpg

SAM_2295_zpsd7vzpe3m.jpg

Electrics later. To wet to test run anyway

SAM_2296_zpswvkfdhe9.jpg

That is so much nicer than what I fashion out of a cardboard box every time I need to build / re-build shocks!

Since that launch of the DT-03T I have been thinking big wheels.

SAM_2330_zpsx0w6hst5.jpg

SAM_2332_zps1jm0wncu.jpg

SAM_2333_zpsxp4z7yib.jpg

Rears fit great but the fronts need WR-02 axles

SAM_2485_zps7gqtyasw.jpg

progress of time..................................................................................................................

WR-02 parts bag

SAM_2486_zpsctacwaho.jpg

Anyone need spares?

SAM_2487_zpsaotvicox.jpg

SAM_2488_zpsjyulejqe.jpg

All fitted

SAM_2489_zpszc4umrjb.jpg

SAM_2490_zpspguvipux.jpg

How about a classic truggy body?

SAM_2491_zpsqdw2b9tj.jpg

SAM_2492_zpsxana8fdu.jpg

Opinions?
