With stock of the rereleased TA-02SW Porsche 911 GT2 due to arrive in UK stores shortly before my birthday in a few months, it makes sense for this to be the next "oldie" to join my fleet.

In the meantime though, my brushless TT-01 could do with a new bodyshell, and I thought it might be nice if the shell choice somehow complimented the 911 GT2, as they will be displayed next to each other.

So far I have set myself a few criteria:

- It has to be German.

- It has to be a GT racer.

- It has to be a Tamiya shell.

I have narrowed my choice down to three likely candidates:

Porsche:

BMW:

Mercedes:

Obviously a Porsche can be complemented by another Porsche, but the more modern Porsche is a GT3 class car, whereas the older one is a GT2.

The BMW on the other hand is a GT2 car, like the TA-02SW Porsche, albeit a more modern one from a different manufacturer.

The GT3 Mercedes is neither the same class nor from the same manufacturer as the Porsche, but it fits the criteria and is a fine-looking car.

There is also the question of whether to go street or race (boxart) with the colours. The TA-02SW 911 GT2 is being released as a street version, which I will likely paint yellow. To fit with this, I could go for a street scheme with my TT-01 shell too, likely painting it metallic purple (unless I get the Merc shell which would have to be silver).

Or I could of course go boxart. A boxart race shell may not look as good displayed with the street Porsche, but further down the line if the shells become rare and sought-after, I may be glad I went boxart.

What do y'all think? Which options would you go for, and are there any other shells that you think I should consider?

I look forward to reading your views!

Porsche every time for me although I'm not convinced on the colour scheme of the one pictured. I do like the Merc, the Bmw shell is not a favourite of mine. Having owned them for the past 12 years I don't find them all that interesting anymore.

Gotta be another Porsche to compliment the Porsche.

I have my Porsche GT2 (albeit on a TA03RS) which is accompanied by a 996 GT3 (TL01 kit) and subsequently ended up with a 934 Turbo (30th anni body on custom chassis). All street schemes.

I would go for the Mercedes in race livery. The long bonnet gives it a very different look from other touring car bodyshells, which is what I like on my BMW Z4.

I always liked the brighter box arts - they appeal to my inner child. The shells pictured above lack that as they're all quite low key.

If I had the talent to paint a shell to box art standards then I'd be considering putting a "legacy" Porsche race livery on the modern 911 shell.

Honestly the only thing that is going to look good next to that Porsche GT2 is another Porsche GT2 in street livery
