Does anyone else feel the need when building chassis's that everything needs to be Tamiya?

I've spent a fortune on bearings,servos,receivers,batteries .

My TL01 has 50 Hop ups on it, but it still wasn't complete until it had genuine cable ties.

That sounds like quite the list!

Personally I don't feel the need to have everything Tamiya, but I do like to stick to a small group of manufacturers/suppliers that I trust. For example, all my radio gear is Spektrum, all my bearings come from RCBearings, all my brushless motors are Speed Passion, etc.

Could be just the jelousy on my part, but WOW that is a long list of ONLY Tamiya bits. Congratulations on that as I can't say as I have gone quite that far. I do have my favorites for electronics, that would be Futaba, but the new radios from almost everyone are starting to look HIDEOUS to me, I think I might be getting old and crotchety. :D

I am also glad to know I am not the only one stumped on trying to get photos onto the forums and such easily.

I have found myself digging into the HPI bucket on occasion for tires and wheels vs Tamiya stuff. Sometimes the LOOK I am after isn't well executed with Tamiya's offerings, so I go to other sources that I can buy. I have to admit, if I wanted to add all that stuff you did to your car, it would all be ordered online from the far east as I don't think any supplier in the USA would have them easily and TamiyaUSA's prices would take more of my money that my recently replaced transmission in my 1:1 Honda. :o

Like XV Pilot, I try to stick to a small group of trusted suppliers. For me that is HPI (brushless/Esc's/tyres/shells/batteries), rcbearings, generally futaba for servos and now that acoms don't do the 2.4g stick radio, I'll be having to get Futaba receivers, gmade for shocks etc,

I'm with Crash Cramer on radios. I really liked the Acoms stick 2.4, no idea why they discontinued it, probably because they still have a massive stockpile of unshiftable 27mhz receivers still to shift! So looks like I'll be putting my Futaba FF7 to good use on more models but it's hefty to spend £55 on a receiver for each model!.

On occasion I go elsewhere for parts such as the core rc lipo to fit all the rere's and I might be giving speed passion motors a try.

Cheers

I'm 100% with you SvenB

The hop up list on my TRF-511 is perhaps not quite as long as yours, but just as pure.

I haven't used Tamiya radio gear much as I've primarily built old models and Tamiya didn't do any radio gear then. Since Tamiya do not have any competition grade gear I've used other brands for my TRFs.

But I've been stocking up on Tamiya radio gear and servos recently to use in some newer cars.

I've also stayed away from Tamiya batteries.

Apart from that I'm 100% Tamiya on hop ups, regardless. I want my cars to be the genuine article that Tamiya intended. I've even bought vintage Taamiya bearing sets because I want my vintage cars to be period correct in every aspect.

I only build shelf queens at the moment. It's the building process that is my main draw in this hobby. For a shelf queen I don't need to consider absolute performance and can stick with authenticity. I plan to build a runner DF-02 soon, but that will not have many hopups. I built a runner TRF 201 (never ran it ;)) and stayed with Tamiya hop-ups except for tires as the track I was planning to use works best with Schumacher mini spikes.

I like to make parts from anywhere fit if I can, even if I am using Tamiya parts they are often not listed for that model. I like the idea that mine is mine but I total appreciate this level of OCD.

That is a very serious level of brand loyalty :o

I've built a few cars with some Hop-Ups but never to that degree.

I do use genuine Tamiya Hop-Ups on my 1/14 trucks and have not strayed from the brand...yet...but would not rule it out for the future.

Personally I use generic ball bearings and either Acoms or Futaba servos as the Tamiya products are pricewise uncompetitive.

When i did my first Manta Ray restoration, i used all kinds of hop ups from GPM, 3Racing, you name it. As i got more into the restoration thing, i also moved more to original Tamiya hopups and now i want exclusively want original era-correct Tamiya hopups on my models

I guess it kind of grows on you

I can appreciate this to some degree.

I built a TA03F using all the hop ups I could get my hands on, Yeah Racing, GPM and Tamiya.

I then went and built another one using only Tamiya parts. There's something nicer about the fit and finish of a chassis built with solely "OEM" parts.

I don't share the same affection for all electronics - I love the Tamiya tuned motors however - but their ESCs, Servos and radio gear have been left behind on the market in my opinion, especially with the advent of lipo batteries. Whilst that's not a huge issue for a display model, it can be a bit prohibitive for something which is actually going to be used. Let's not forget either that even good Tamiya electronics (TEU302 for example) don't really represent good value for money!

Thanks to scarecrow for posting pics

Yeah maybe a bit low on torque but plans are afoot! not that it will be run. the RR maybe better suited to my F103gt

Precisely what my F103GT runs now :)

It used to have a 15x2 motor in it, but it was way, way too fast!

What about a Dyna run motor? will it suit the CPR 160 esc?

I hope it does as i just bought one
