I have always looked at the Tamiya R/C trucks with much admiration, but due to me being a speed freak, racing was always where my passion lay. Now I am a bit older ( wiser? ;) ), especially the Knight Hauler etc series of trucks. But lately again I have really taken a right liking to the Tamiya Trucks, more so the Mercedes 1838LS, which might seem a bit strange ......

But it just strikes me as a nice simple workhorse truck. So I am thinking of possibly purchasing one and applying a nice retro livery to it. Now, here is the questions ......

I currently run a Spektrum DX6i for racing, now I assume due to it being a full 6 channel transmitter that all the trucks functions are not an issue? As I plan on building it as per the kit with no light unit etc to begin with but may add one at a later date.

Are there any tips for building these? i.e. would bearings be advisable even on a slow scale runner like this?

All help appreciated,

James

James..

If you look at my showroom you will see that I have a few trucks, including a Mercedes 1838LS, but it doesn't look like the showroom photos anymore though..

As for your Spektrum DX6 radio, it should be fine to use in the truck.. Even if you decide to go to an MFU later on, I understand that you can still access all of the MFU functions by doing some mixing on the DX6, and setting up the switches or knobs on the radio to work instead of manual trims..

I would suggest buying bearings and fitting them when you build it although some people don't bother replacing the brass/bronze bushings...

I would also recommend fitting a 55 or higher turn motor so the truck will run at a more scale speed..(they are quite fast with the kit 540..)

The only other thing that I would do is to paint the leaf springs, as most of mine have developed some surface rust over the years, and its a pain to have to disassemble the truck to paint them later on..
