Flysky FS-T4B (£22 posted)

I purchased this a while ago for my son to use. The first issue is that it is a plane transmitter so one stick is floppy.

I popped the back off and swapped a few parts around and then filled the sides I did not want to move with hot glue

It works well with good range and response but is a bit big for small hands. Single model only

The receiver is also Flysky and quite small.

Turnigy 5X (£15.99 +postage)

I purchased this one because I thought it might be compatible with the Hobbyking HK3100 receivers I use with my core code transmitter. It is not compatible :(

But lets carry on.

This is a plane unit again so has one floppy stick

Quick pop off the back and it looks like the glue trick will work again. I have run out of glue so that will follow......

This is a lot smaller than the Flysky so will be the boys new TX. Quality is about the same as the Flysky.

Comes with a Turnigy receiver that is again quite small.

Again this is a one only model transmitter

HobbyKing HK-310 (£20.01 + postage)

Hurry one that works with my current receivers (HK-3100)

I thought I would give these wheel things a go and this one looked OK for the cash. The display and menu is the same as the Core Code and it work with the same receivers.

16 Model memory and comes with a not so small HKR3000 reciver.

Not tested yet, need to wait for it to stop raining. Quality is not up to the Spectrum one I played with at the weekend but it is only £20

Running reports will continue on these as I modify and use them.

Or I might bin them all and buy others.................................

When you say "single model only", you mean it has no memory?, but could be used with multiple receivers/ cars if you have them available?

Nice write-up, we need more reviews on these cheap radios. :D

Yes no memory. For the price you might as well have one per model if you are having non memory ones.

You know, with all the FlySky stuff you already have, you might consider the FS GT2B pistol grip 3CH Tx. I ordered one up last month for the Grasshopper but I haven't swapped out the Futaba Attack yet so I can't comment on it's performance. I paid $40 delivered for mine and they are on eBay for $24. I have looked at that one. They do one with loads of features for a couple of quid more. I have never tried anything but stick so will see if I can get used to wheel ones. My main aim was a small one for young hands and a spare one that worked with all my rx so I can lend out models if need be.

I totally know what you mean. Even the Futaba Attack is a little big for my 8 year old son. I'll have him hold the FS tonight. I'll see how it fits and let you know tomorrow. :)

Edit: Also, everyone in my family started with an Attack 2-stick controller. Every one of them are now using pistol grip wheel transmitters and won't even touch a 2-stick controller now.

We have both the gt3b and gt3c in the house. I have modded the gt3b to run off a £7 3s lipo which makes it considerably lighter. The gt3c is overall nicer than the 3b with a better display that's readable in daylight, nicer wheel action, foam grip on the wheel and standard small lipo battery. There is a question over reliability though with reported issues on early models with wires between on button and main board breaking. However there is a fix which I'll perform if we get the problem.

The 2.4gig tech is solid though and we get no issues at the track with any of our flysky kit.

Great write up. I'd be interested to know more about this hot glue trick you did on the Flysky FS-T4B. I have the 6 ch version and wanted to disable the mechanism that holds the left stick where you leave it and make it self centering.

When I did my nephews I think I took more photos but the long and short is you get 3 centring cam plates that are all the same. You can pop these out and pick which functions you want centring and hot glue the other. I am going to make the Turnegy Two channel with hot glue so they boy does not get confused with extra movement.

I will hunt out pic later

The part highlighted above can be put on any axis to self center. You get three, I looked at making a 4th but the work involved was not worth it when you can get a whole new set up for £20 and rob it for parts.

I have had time to play with the wheel transmitter on my WT-01. I have to say it is not bad for the money but I need time to get used to the layout.

The Turnigy 5X has been the focus of my attentions this week.

SAM_2497_zpsnd52eybf.jpg

Swapped the spring components over to make the right stick the loose one.

SAM_2498_zps2nj7xmzx.jpg

Bit of hot glue to keep it fixed.

I had a thought. It lose one channel I can use it elsewhere. The D/R channel is not needed by me but has a two external switch.

I played shorting the channels to operate the channels and it worked so if I put a three way (ON/OFF/ON) switch in place of the D/R one I can use it to opperate other things (like the three speed in my Tundra)

Anyone know any issues with just switching full live / off / full live?
