I don't mind the size of the box so much as how it presents when you open it up. The packaging of the original was nice and neat. The modern kits just look like a jumble of bags and a body.

Sorry, just feeling like an old curmudgeon.

I agree - there is definitely something more special about the nice, neat presentation of the originals. At least the Rough Rider and Sand Scorcher Re-re's had blister packs. If they re-release 58058 with no tire box I will send someone a strongly-worded letter.

I really like when it looks nice, when I open a new kit. Lately the Egress and Kyosho Beetle were awesome.

Anyway we are getting the Monster Beetle rere'd, so that will do it for me, no matter the size of the box and how they managed to squeeze it in.

The small box is a bonus, it ensures that more can be shipped together, reducing transport costs and keeping the RRP down.

I have heard that some people do prefer a small package. Size preference is subjective indeed.

It also means it can be smuggled into the house easier if need be....

Just to stir things up but The Zoom Room here in Canada claims to have stock on the monster beetle. I might go there today, but it's a 3hr drive so no guarantees but some of the other Canadian members here might want to have a look.

A little faster than Advance Hobbies, but not by much! Knowing how few people visit there for Tamiyas, it may even still be around by Christmas... Here's hoping! (unless another Canadian TC member gets it first - no hard feelings!)

Quite exciting to see it back again :)

A quick look shows that the X and Y parts are different, and the X3 part is that which acts as a bump stop. Remove it and you will have the same amount of shock travel as the original, by the looks of things.

The drawing of the P parts at the back of the manual is wrong. It shows the Sand Scorcher P parts without the spotlamp bar mounting holes. The instructions show that the lamps are mounted in the same way as the original though.

According to the manual, the G and J parts still contain the Blackfoot shock and body mount parts. Still want to see the actual trees before I get hopeful at the prospect of an original Blackfoot rere.

Thanks, got it looks like good build a chassis I have not had before either and at least has oil shocks!

Just bearings to get me thinks, and with esc being covered, not sure if reciever can go in box but will get a waterproof servo for all weather running. I shouldn't have got another kit but always liked this one ooops

Are the universals the same as the upgrade available for the rerelease frog? Still same internals in gearbox so old frog screw mod still required. Body mount still the same and front mounting point for the spots still all the same so the weak points pretty much all remain. Still excited about this and have preordered from my normal Asian supplier.....do I order a second one ....decisions decisions......how long before a body set is released??.....and will they release a upgraded diff like they did for the sand scorcher based on the thorp upgrade.........oh I hope so..........would definitely have to get a few of all of those if it happens.....come on Mr Tamiya........ just a shame the exchange rate has moved almost 20% against me in recent months down here in little old NZ.

I seem to remember the original MB having a heavy plate that went over the steering servo.

??

Still want one of these though.

I've tried the Frog universals on my original MB runner and they didn't work very well.

Always binding on maximum shock travel - when compressed they worked fine.

So either they reduced shock travel or used different universals.

Gearbox seems to be exactly the same as original...

I wonder if that's why they added those shock limiters.
