There you go... I'm working on my midnight pumpkin body slowly for a basher for this chassis, keeping my vintage just the way it is... And use the "new" beetle body for bashing also...

Mine is still in box, plan to finish a few others first, and keep this build for over the Christmas break as a present to myself hehe.

Any official hop ups likely?

Besides the full set of ball bearings, and aluminum wheels... No, not really, had bought shocks the lhs said would fit, they were too long, so they are going on the clod build... So maybe oil filled shocks if I figure out a good size to go with... Other than that, let's see what breaks...

The re-re M.B. comes with friction shocks??!

Actually, they are a bit easier than the originals, I believe the originals had clips to put on the shaft and the plastic disks w the 1, 2, or 3 holes in them for stiffness control, those disc parts are still in there, but not used, and it's a one piece shaft w a plate on it w flat sides to control oil flow...

They don't seem to be all that bad... But as I stated in earlier posts... I usually have to upgrade stuff...

I think it comes from too much watching the tv show "Home Improvement" w Tim Allen...

r r R !!!!

No, oil filled, just like the original... But I wanted to go w aluminum ones just as a upgrade...

Asking just out of curiosity. :)

Why? Because of looks or because of performance?

Just finished building mine. Such a satisfying build :) Was pleasantly surprised to see that Tamiya have included universal shafts instead of dogbones

Looking really good, have you sprayed the body?

Yes it has been sprayed with TS-8 Italian Red. I'm going to apply clear over it since it doesn't have the shiny mirror look up close.

Just did a test run inside the house. There is some vibration at the rear like posted earlier in this thread. No vibration if the rear suspension is compressed. Will also fit a high torque servo saver as the stock one is too weak.

Just ordered a new E parts tree to fix up my original, almost bought a re-re but too many birthdays / xmas / anniversary coming up to spunk that much on something pretty to look at :(

Looks good, i will be following the transmission issue with interest as I will be building mine over Christmas. I am going to be spraying mine as well as I have the paint anyway

Honestly, 90% looks, 40% performance...

Make sense?

Im probably 50/50, I want them to look good, and maybe perform a little better... The stock ones are actually not all that bad, better than I expected, but... If it's gonna be a basher, it's gonna have to be able to hold up...

From my experience, the CVA dampers are better than many cheap aluminum dampers even though they are made of plastic. They never gave me trouble, unlike alloy ones. If there's a need to upgrade performance wise, there are TRF dampers. But honestly I think there's no need for them on the Monster Beetle.

If it is just for looks only, that's OK. But then keep in mind that many aftermarket alloy dampers are bulkier than Tamiya dampers, thus reducing suspension travel at a given damper length. They also often feature proprietary spring diameters and weird damper mount systems. This makes it harder to adapt them to Tamiya vehicles.

Really? I figured an upgrade would be considerably better...

Maybe I will just run these til I destroy them, then jump off that burning bridge...

Thanks for the advice...

I also love the Tamiya C.V.A. dampers.

I would be happy about a new set for my old monster beetle, because I have the mk1 C.V.A.s and they do not work as good as the new ones.

I have a pair of new black dt-02 C.V.A.s (they don't have the changeable plastic pistons) on my Blackfoot and they work like a charm!

I have, was thinking the same thing... Have to get this too...

Nice... Is that TwinningMike (or something or another)??? I picked up his stuff early on...

Now I have CRP ball ends, HPI 4/40 turnbuckles, and Kimbrough servo saver in my set-up...
