From my experience, the CVA dampers are better than many cheap aluminum dampers even though they are made of plastic. They never gave me trouble, unlike alloy ones. If there's a need to upgrade performance wise, there are TRF dampers. But honestly I think there's no need for them on the Monster Beetle.

TRF Monster Beetle?

Genius! :)

The diff on my 2 day old Monster Beetle is starting to make a clicking sound. I haven't even run it outside yet, just some short test runs inside the house. I shimmed the diff with a 0.3mm shim and it seems to have fixed it, but who knows how long it will last.

Mine was doing the same thing on occasion, pulled motor, added some more of the tube of grease that came in kit, hasn't done it any more... So far...

Blimey, this is all sounding like my 14yr old experiences. I got a used Mudblaster as a kid from a local shop and never got to run it for more than 5 mins at a time without the diff playing up or the dogbones popping, or the steering servo popping its saver head off lol.

That said, I have got a vintage basher Monster Beetle and that's been rock solid every time I've driven it...all 3 times ;)

We all wanted nostalgia chaps, looks like we're getting it in droves ;)

Has anyone tried fitting a Thorpe ball diff in their re-re MB and running that?

Haha I wish - but I DO have a big ziploc bag full of NIP Thorp diff parts that I might sort thru if people want to get their hands on a set. BTW if anyone needs info on the Thorpe diffs I have a scan of their old catalog that can post a link to here - just let me know! More of a part list than anything, but those parts can be hard to sort out by number alone!

I'm considering listing here and/or on fleabay a bunch of NIP hopups I have for the ORV chassis / Blackfoot / MB that I don't need for my own Blackfeet / MBs / Mudblaster etc. I actually have an unused set of .50 Caliber Customs aluminum front arms and upright blocks, anodized press parts, etc. Lots of CRP stuff. And a NIP vintage window parts set for the Monster Beetle with the full window all around. Might list that in case anyone wants to go a bit more vintage with their MB body.

I'd be willing to pick up almost any reasonably priced Hop-Up from you Beefy... If not for my current Frog ProjeKCt, perhaps for my future KrimFoot ProjeKCt...

I'd love to get that Thorp Scan too... To add to my collection...

Terry

Sorry, I've had a couple of beers, and I'm jammin' some King Crimson...

Haha - King Crimson is good for jammin'! It's like Pink Floyd without all the pesky structure. :D

Here you go sir! Thorpe diff docs: https://goo.gl/EjcAmq

Maybe what I'll do is this weekend I'll figure out what hop-ups I'd sell and put up a list here, give you guys a few days before they go up on the bay. Sound good?

Word! Lemme know if you have a CRP 1624... I might need one later down the road... And they are getting hard to find...

Never knew it came with CVD's.

In my experience with the re re Frog the Tamiya cvd's aren't good under full droop . I got much better results with the dog bones. They do pop out at times but I solved it in my TRF Frog build on here

Can't wait till I get mine.

just ordered that shocktower support for my old MB and BF, I hope I'll be able to mount it.

I have no idea if you need another part to mount it.

Do anyone know?

CRP 1627 requires CRP 1624, which in turn needs CRP 1622.

27 and 22 are easy to get... 24 is getting hard to find...

Haha yeah, it says so in the item description:

This will eliminate the flexibility of the weak tower and reduce the possibility of breakage. The support brace will fit most after market towers that mount in the stock position. The brace stretches from CRP #1624 (required, not included), directly to the shock tower.

But the cruel reality only kicks in when you receive the CRP 1624! (read the full label):

I may have a few of the different components in my stash - I'll check and let you folks know if I do.

Are they both the same length for the center steer?

Yeah, that's the point. With different length rods from offset servo position, steering results are slightly different left to right...

Plus it looks cool!
