I decided to beef up the front rods and servo saver on my runner Frog . I used Kyosho pillow balls with the 2.6mm threads and fitted them into the front arms instead of the brass ball connectors , then fitted a Kimbrough servo saver to the Acoms servo , fitted 5mm Tamiya brass ball connectors to the saver (fit the ball facing down ) . made some 3mm rods up , fitted Kyosho turnbuckles to the pillow balls and Tamiya 5mm t/b's to the saver balls , nice and sturdy steering set-up

@ effigy3 & Nigel , they are CRP shox without the coil-over springs . I didn't find the CRP spring set-up very good , so I went back to the internal Tamiya original springs with the oil shox doing their thing

Nice Frog! Where did you get the black chassis???

I also use a Kimbrough SS and CRP rods/ends on my Jumper...

One of my future project will be to switch out the rods for turnbuckles... One day...

The black chassis is a gray one sprayed satin black . I've read your write up on your 'hopped up' Frog , nice buggy there ;) . I have just fitted an SRB wire mast as an experiment , simple job and it stops me from jabbing myself on those rigid stock ones

It's my Brat re-re: 3Racing turnbuckles, Team Magic ball cups (M3 shaft for small uniballs) and Tamiya Servo saver:

Nice... I'm trying to same mod with mine, ie turnbuckles... I picked up some Valterra 4-40 x 50mm T-Bucks... but they haven't arrived yet... If they don't work, I'll try your solution...

Thanks!

OK, need some help...

The Vaterra TBs arrived today and I could tell just by looking that they were greater in diameter than the threaded rod I was using. I *thought* I was using a 4/40 rod but it seems I am not??? http://www.vaterrarc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=VTR246009

I'm using the CRP 1519 ball-ends, which are supposed to be sized for 4/40... http://www.rcchopshop.com/crp/1519.html

Am I messed up here??? Doesn't 4/40 signify diameter (among other things)???

What I need to do is take the rig to my LHS and let them tell me what is actually in the car!

Any thoughts???

Thanks!

OK, so I'm not sure I figured it out per se, but I just received a set of HPI A257 turnbuckles (4-40x46mm) and they fit perfectly. They are the diameter I needed and the proper length if you center mount your steering servo.

The only thing I can think of is that Vaterra is mis-labeling their TBs??? Oh well, another $5 into the spare parts bin...

As for the HPIs, they look and work great.

I’ve just picked up on this as my steering rods are a bit wobbly. I have found the turnbuckles but am confused by the ball ends as some seem to have metal ball sockets built in - as attached. What type of caps do I need to fit the standard ball on the Frog steering arm?

Thanks in advance

Nick

You’ll need Tamiya 50633s for the steering arms, unless you drill out the brass ball pressed into the arm.  Years ago, my father did this to mine and I’ve used 2mm screws and nuts since.

Thanks  Terry - I presume that those will fit onto a 3mm turnbuckle?

Not sure...  This might be your solution:
