Another fighting buggy?

Recommended Posts

Has anybody noticed on tamiyablog the 47304 fighting buggy 2014 for September releases is it a new one because last years one was 84389 limited release and why is it 2014 not 2015?

Now that is bizarre. I cannot think of a single reason why they would do that. Then again, they did it recently with the DF-03MS but in that instance there was a quite significant time gap between the two releases of the same kit under different part numbers. And the kit was also discontinued initially under the 49496 number wasn't it?

As far as I am aware the Fighting Buggy was never discontinued and it was only released less than a year ago.

Very odd! Maybe it explains why all of those body sets have suddenly appeared on ebay recently though.

How utterly bizarre.

New tooling perhaps? A new part number allows them to distinguish within their internal system.

Who knows?

The list price on 47304 is $428, whereas it was $523 on 84389. That is quite a drop.

Maybe they got a new supplier for metal parts that is cheaper?

Does Japanese law require a new part number for an item if a sufficient number of contained parts are sourced from a new supplier?

Thing is, we know the 84xxx line is "limited edition release" of 58xxx type kits.

What is the normal purpose of the 47xxx line? From looking at TamiyaClub's own listings, it's for Tamtech and 1/18 scale, but it missing a huge quantity of items.

Fighter buggies have come down in price everywhere. In the UK some shops are selling them for £180 new.

The recently released TT02D Type S is 47301, not sure whether it is a limited release or not. Could it be possible that Tamiya decided to produce the Fighting Buggy indefinitely, therefore the change in item number? Tower Hobbies changed the name of the 84xxx kit to "Fighting Buggy Ltd. Ed." while listing the 47xxx number as "Fighting Buggy 2014"
