Has anyone had any experience of this stuff?,..do you get a nice shiny finish as the shiny cap suggests?,.. or can anyone recommend anything else?,. just wondering if i can re-coat an old ranger rear bumper i have[?].

I've not used the chrome, but have used their other paint on wheels with success, I like it. Mud4fun however found it to chip easily. I would recommend priming with the Plasticote primer first, the wheels I've done have been much more successful when primed.

I have not had experience with this brand, but would say it will almost certainly work better (i.e. be shiny) if you undercoat it in gloss black. The certainly has to be done for ALCAD II Chrome, which is available in a jar, or in a spray can.

Thanks

yes i have used it and no it doesnt come out like the cap.

but it is fairly shiny, you can see yourslf in it but its not a sharp finish. it is easily scuffed and marked - maybe if you put a coat of laquer over it it might be more durable.

to be honest though i find plasticoat make the best spray paints,

if it did come out like the cap suggests i think they wouldnt be able to make enough of the stuff!

The example on the cap is the real stuff... you can

acheive the same shine if your surface is mirror-smooth.

However yeah it doesn't adhere very well. Just use your

fingernail and scuff the can's painted cap - it'll flake

off without too much effort.

I've used it with good results, in fact all new wheels I buy I spray with this stuff. Sure its scuffs and flakes but as I glue my tyres to the rims - by the time the paint has flaked badly the tyres are worn out so I need a complete new set anyway!

DON'T Spray lacquer over the top of Plastikote or it will go a dull grey. (for Chrome plastikote)

DO make sure the surface is very flat and smooth, the finish shows every imperfection. Generally, if the wheel is slightly scuffed then don't even bother because even the finest grade paper will not give the mirror finish needed.

DO clean bare plastic wheels with hot soapy water first and let them dry.

DO leave the paint to dry/harden for several days before trying to fit the tyre on or it will scrape the paint off.

It doesn't give a finish quite as good as the can lid but pretty close on brand new smooth plastic. I've painted bumpers, grills and wheels with it and it is the best value solution I've found that comes close to a plated finish. (In the UK that is)

Okay!,. gonna buy a little can of plasticote then!,.. i have a rear bumber for my ranger that is minus all its chrome and is broken in half!,. bit of glue , bit of filler , lots of sanding/smoothing ,. hopefully it will look half decent![:P]

I have never had good luck with any chrome paint until I found Alclad. With other paints, the most you will get is a bright silver

I know what you mean Shodog, although for wheels I actually prefer that polished silver look over the very shiny chrome. The plastikote tends to look like polished alloy wheels which look more scale and realistic. The chrome parts often look out of scale and too toy like. Just my opinion! [:)]

Here is a couple of photos of wheels and bumpers that I have used Plastikote on:
