Hey guys,

As many of you know, it's a challenge to install proper dampers on the rear of the SRB. The stock mount is too low and the rear track is too narrow.

I convinced Dwayne (dwyz250 on eBay) to direct his amazing machining efforts to the SRB. I actually offered to send him my car and instead he bought a roll bar and came up with this mount.

The dampers are the TRF201 front aeration dampers, which are fairly wide.

He will be sending me a pair shortly that are 5mm wider. Will keep you guys posted.

Here are some updates with pictures:

I changed from RC Channel to stock suspension on left hand since most will be using a original.

Without coilovers:

The track of the Sand Scorcher with paddle tracks is very narrow. So I tested it out with the drive hub from Wildone and FAV. Since the axle is short you will need to use a serrated nut

You can also use shims on original drive hub .. it helps a little bit.. here I am using 3 x 0.3 mm shims which is the maximum I would usse

You might try a different design that brings the shock in closer to cage. This will let the tire lead when using big bore shocks. Here is one on my buggy that replicated the RCH mount. Since it was a repro I didn't feel bad about modifying it by cutting one tab off.

Your big bores are short, so that can be close to the cage. As you go with a longer damper, they need to be more upright. The idea is to use dampers that are readily available.

Also, if you look at the first post, the mount is close to the cage and the big bores will not mount. Thats why we went with the second mount, which is 5mm out.

Hi Raman36 !

Great stuff !! Thanks for sharing!

btw, I see that you're using the 'Sand Scorcher Body Post' fitted with 'Super Champ Servo Saver'....did you make the body post? It sure looks different from the 'vintage' one !

About the 'servo saver', is it a direct fit?

Hi Steponit,

Yes I had a friend who is a machinist make the body post for both my Sand Scorcher and Rough Rider / Buggy Champ, so that I could use the Super Champ Servo Saver. They are both single piece units, so I don't have to attach the longer Sand Scorcher post to the shorter Rough Rider post.

The servo saver is a direct fit to the chassis.. however the diameter of the hole for the post is larger than the stock Sand Scorcher / Rough Rider version. Thats why you need a different post. There was someone that made them a while back on here.. I don't recall their name.
