Hi all,

I would like to post some new pics of my Wild Dagger.

Comes with me every summer for many years now, no matter where I go!

Again this summer, drew a smile on my face... I really love this car!

Cheers,

Stamatis

Awesome work there, loving the all metal chassis and metal gearboxes!! There are quite a few of us here are big fans of these chassis (WR01 4wd and WT01 2wd).

Did you make those metal parts yourself, that gearbox casing is a work of art!

thank you!

The gear cases are from RC4WD, they made those once, and had to get some at that time....

I got one for sale if interested at the "sales and trades" section.

Rims are alloy too.

click my collection link below, and scroll down to Wild Dagger pics...

These trucks are my all time favorite!

Wow those WR01's have some serious upgrades. They look amazing! :)

I too love the WR01 and WT01 chassis. They are so versatile, fun and robust they would be the last in my collection to go. Not that any of the others are going anywhere.

****! the alloy gearboxes looks so awesome. There are only some units produced. I never got these gearboxes. :(

I also see, you have the old and the new version of the alloy chassis. Do you got it from germany? ;)

Yes, chassis is both from Germany, both versions, anodized by me.

Plus some parts were removed from the brushless one and replaced by 40mm alloy rods to keep the weight down.

Where is Germany? Any links, I need that chassis in my life

Great-looking truck, you're making me really regret selling mine! I had one of the earlier Dammann chassis and went along the 14.4v 550 route, but the truck had so much weight I couldn't get it to handle right.

I really need to buy another WR01 and keep it lightweight and simple. Finding a good motor that runs well in reverse is perhaps the hardest part of the build :D

I have a few dagger questions:

1. I want to use tamiya cva dampers, but they are a little bit on the short side...

What are the profits of the aluminum damper stay?

Why would I want to use longer dampers?

2. I think the dagger is horribly slow, so I want to use better motors.

Will tamiya sport tuned motors make the dagger "fast" like a hornet with the silver can?

Will 550 motors fit a stock chassis?

Can u run a traxxas evx-2 ESC with only one Tamiya stick pack? (The ESC has two battery plugs...)

3. My body looks horrible, what alternative body's would fit?

Lunchbox, Monster Beetle, orig. Blackfoot (favorite), other Tamiyas?

4. Do anyone know a little bit bigger 4wd tires+rims made by Tamiya that would fit?

PS:

The Dagger in the link has a lot of suspensiontravel without using a traditional shocktower, could I achieve the same result with tamiyz CVAs?

Hi there,

1. Shock towers ar more durable and you can use longer shocks which means longer suspension travel.

2. You can use anything (540 or 550 size) that has zero timing, because front motor runs in reverse.

3. From Tamiya, Wild Dagger, Twin Detonator, Mighty Bull, Overlander, Mud Blaster etc (last 3 come in a finished version) are some alternatives.

4. I dont think there are but what's the point? Just putting more stress on axles, arms, etc. I usually go for smaller, softer and better traction ones and use a hotter motor.

1. Ok thanks. I don't unterstand how this will result in more travel, because there is a maximum expanded state (limited by the dogbone) and a maximum compressed state (limited by the ground).

But I have the dagger not at hand at the moment so I can't check how the suspension is designed....

2. Ok, I will try the sport tuned motors first (and let the tamiya ESC in it), if they are to slow I'll get a traxxas e-maxx 550 set + the evx-2 ESC.

3. Maybe I'll get another wild dagger body to paint it nicer than my ugly one, but maybe ill find a Blackfoot 3 body and orig. Blackfoot repro decals.

4. I do think the Dagger do not look like a real monstertruck, I think a little bit bigger tires will make a big difference in looks, but you are right, that might be to much for the axles and dogbones....

I use Kyosho dogmones, they are 2mm longer and stronger than the original ones.

Sport tuned motors dont have zero timing ;-) Front will be slower.

If you want a very fast Dagger you got two options. You go 14.4V and 550 motors, but too much extra weight that makes it uncontrollable and easy to break or a RWD and a brushless setup.

I assure you these gears are bulletproof, but not the gearcases, dogbones or any other parts of the truck.

I don't want a very fast truck :D I want only a truck that's as fast as a Lunchbox or a Hornet, but a little bit more capable of driving off road..

I I would want a very fast truck I would buy a traxxas, but I don't like the looks of the cars.

I did not knew that the sport tuned motors are timed, I did read a lot of conments that demented that.

I've also red that there is a difference between japanese sport tuned and us sport tuned.

So now I'm confused :D

But I trust you, you are an expert in daggers, also I think you are the owner of a hobbyshop.

No, I am not a hobbystore owner neither want to become one ;-)

Simply it is my favorite trucks for the last 10 years... ;-)

Once, there was www. rcdaggerweb.com, where you could find hundreds of pages about Daggers...

Still miss it...

I run 21t adjustable timing motors in my kids trucks and 19t ones in mine, all retuned to zero. Just make sure your ESC can handle the load of both motors.

The alloy shock towers take the stress off of the gear case, they tend to crack where the top of the shocks mount.

The dog bones can be replaced with those from an Ofna Dominator, 1mm longer but much stronger. Use TL01 hardened outputs.

2.2 bead locks and scale truck tyres work well, I use Losi Rock Clawz.

Get a decent metal geared servo, Tamiya hi-torque saver and the alloy arm designed for the M03, and alloy servo mounts will stop it flapping around when you steer.

I've ordered 2 aluminum shocktowers, when they arrive I'll try them with the plastic e-maxx shocks.

What motors would you recommend for either the tamiya dual motor ESC or the quicrun wp860?

I think the mororlimit would be 24 turns on both ESCs.

So the super stock motors would be to much....

Ps:

Today I saw a YouTube video of this chassis with a monster beetle shell on it, driving 2wd. It looked very nice :D

So maybe I put a super stock in it and drive it 2wd...

Anyone has a opinion or experience in driving a 2wd dagger?

How will it handle?

Posted

The WT-01 is basically a 2WD WR-01, and it runs very well. I actually prefer it to my WR-01 for high-speed driving as it is lighter and handles jumps better with its front kick-up.

They drive great in 2WD, the Beetle body survives rollovers very well and they look great! Can't imagine why Tamiya haven't released a Beetle variant on this chassis themselves?

I think, if i remove the motor & the dogbones the WR-01 will handle like a WT-01.

Ithink there will not be a huge difference.

PS:

I saw a Video of a WT-01 and the Suspension seems to work superb!
