The Baja Champ can use a 19, 21, or 23 tooth 0.6 module pinions. I went for 19t 0.6 mod, get this one. You can get them from modelsport. Make sure you get a steel one like others have mentioned earlier.

Before you decide which motor to upgrade to find the rating of your esc. For example if it is rated at 12 turns you can run a 12 turn motor or higher, so 15t, 19t, 23t etc. The lower the number the faster it will go in general but it will shorten your running times. You couldn't have a 9t motor for example with a 12 rated esc.

What esc do you have? Does if have a rating on it or is it a tamiya one? This will guide you in which motor you can have and whether you can go brushless or not. Hth

I've got a turn hpi firebolt in mine. It's fast and not very expensive at all. :)

Well, there is some debate as to the exact motor limit of the TEU-101, but I think most people would agree that you'll be safe if you treat it as if it has a 25T motor limit. This does restrict your motor options somewhat, but this is not really a problem in your case as the touring car oriented gearing of the TL-01B makes it better suited to torquier motors. Something around the 25T mark, for example a GT Tuned, would suit the car quite well I'd say.

Took my Baja out this afternoon and all went well, but sometimes going in a straight line it felt it got interference from something on the steering servo and reared of in another direction, did this a few times,

What radio gear are you using? If you are using a 2.4GHz set, this might well indicate a problem, but if you are running a 27MHz set, it is not unexpected due to the amount of interference on the band (and an excellent reason to upgrade to 2.4GHz).

You could stay with NiMH if you wanted to. That is what I run in my cars, both brushed and brushless.

The only caveat is that to do so, you'd need an ESC with a NiMH mode. Some brushless ESCs expect LiPo power, and when they don't receive it, they shut down thinking that there is a problem.

okay, didn't know that, got any good ideas for motor and esc combo. And where to get it from

I use Tamiya TBLE-02 ESCs coupled to Speed Passion 13.5t sensored motors in my brushless cars. Although the TBLE-02 is not the easiest ESC to set up, it works nicely once sorted.

Basically, you take it into a dark room so that you can see the LED change colour, then poke the setup button with a hard pokey tool at the appropriate time to select the mode you want. You can switch it between brushed and brushless mode, switch reverse on and off, activate and deactivate the LVC, etc.

If you have one handy, we can walk you through the setup if you like.
