Years ago I bought the black body that comes with this interesting clone. Then I found out it isn't really a Tamiya variation. I wonder how many of you have seen or owned this vehicle. Seemingly the only easy signs to identify is the absence of the driver and the black color.

The tires and wheels look just like the real thing but they're one-piece and the front ones does not allow bearings of any sort. The transmission and bathtub are different. I just come across one of these on eBay and was curious. Here's some photos:

Watch out, the seller is offering it as a Tamiya.

Anybody ever owned one of these?

What's the brand on the box, Shodog? The transmitter looks familiar to me, as from other early Japanese ready-to-run models. But itself could be a clone of a brand like Shinsei or Epoch, as I suspect this model was not from a proper brand - more a fly-by-night Korean or Chinese company.

Thanks for the pics. Never heard of Extratoy, but certainly a Taiwanese or Korean copycat brand. And I've seen way worse in the past. This one seems like a reasonable effort on the toy, if not the spelling ^_^ It even had Digital Proportional.

It says a lot when the cheap Taiwanese clones of other cars, made in the 1980s, are actually now better than most cheap Chinese stuff sold at retail today by brands like "Fastlane" and "New Bright".

"New Bright" in particular, will amaze with their flimsiness. Just pick up one of their boxed cars at Toys R Us one day, and feel how little they weigh - maybe half the weight of a solid Nikko buggy of the 80s. They are made from ultra cheap, rubbery, flexible plastic. With plasticky wheels (not rubber). And they often run on tiny slot car motors due to the reduced weight.
