Any Interest in the Futaba FX10? [ SOLD / TRADED ]

Recommended Posts

I had scooped up the makings of at least one new-built Futaba FX10 over the years that I'd meant to build and include what is quite literally the red-headed step child of the Striker in my collection but I am accepting the reality I can't get to a lot of these projects and selling them off.

Is there any interest here among any of you fellow TCers in a sale or trade for this set of parts? I could go into more detail if there is, but it's essentially a NIB kit, but with a mix of lots of individually packaged NIP parts including two whole chassis, decals, manual, box, etc.

If anyone doesn't know the story of the FX10, Futaba hired Tamiya to manufacture a kit for them to rebadge as a Futaba product. Tamiya based it on the Striker and lots of parts are interchangeable. Where the Striker has blue accents the FX10 has red, and where the Striker has a hard canopy/chassis top the FX10 has a lexan canopy. The sides of the FX10 chassis are a little different from the Striker. Other than that they are the same car... but also a weird souvenir of that moment in time. Which is something we TCers can probably all understand.

Let me know if anyone wants to discuss trades or offers before this goes up on fleabay!

I've seen various parts for sale on ebay in the US for the Futaba FX10 but never knew what model it was. Never seen one in the UK, but think this is better looking than the striker...

My day has not been wasted as I've learnt something new about the hobby thanks to you Beefmuffin - I've been in or around the hobby for 20+ years, and still learning :D

What price are we talking about?

This is on my want list for the rarity alone, but I really should spend 15 years assembling the models I have myself not buying new ones... ^_^

I don't know exactly price or trade-value-wise without making a better list of what's included. Before even bothering I wanted to check if there was any interest. I'll do it this weekend and let you guys know and then I'm open to offers, etc!

My preference is to not break it up since I'm really primarily just trying to unclutter some space around the house and selling parts off 1x1 isn't the most efficient way to achieve that goal. Am happy for someone else to buy the lot, keep what they need and sell what they don't...

Lol - I'd like to see someone try to mount these 2wd wheels on a Bigwi(n)g. Good luck with that! ;)

Jeez I can't even locate a single example of a NIP FX10 chassis selling anytime in the past to get a sense for what one should go for price-wise. Of course, I wouldn't ask for the going price of my fellow TCers... but still, not very helpful!

I guess a NIP Striker chassis could be a stand-in value-wise, ballpark at least. I've actually got 2 of those too! But chickenman242tk has already bought the new-built Stiker project one of them goes with and the other is for my own Sonic Fighter.

Well I've been stuck at work for a few days straight (mostly hen nights / bachelorette parties) and haven't had a chance to go through this stuff yet but I think despite not wanting to sell one piece at a time, I think one of the NIP chassis can be an exception.

So if you are interested in one PM me with an offer (will ship to anywhere at cost)...

First one in with a fair offer gets it!

Well said that man!

I can't stand arrogant 'diff balls' who think they have nothing left to learn purely because they've been in the hobby for a long time.

I definitely echo that sentiment @Dorvack - the best thing we can do is always believe there is more to learn. However @73robb I can't take so much of the credit! I just sort of connected the dots. But it is really cool learning about stuff like this isn't it??

Unfortunately this thread has rekindled my desire to own a Striker... Or a Sonic Fighter...

Dorvack.

Well, rekindling a desire for a Striker or Sonic Fighter if you don't have them... I see no problem with that. ;)

Don't be afraid to make any offers! I'm not a stickler and I prefer giving people very good deals over getting as much as possible, so long as it's not significantly less than I paid (which I don't remember to be honest).

Do you have everything you need for the Sonic Fighter? I have extras of the yellow parts / wing and the white parts / gearbox cover etc.

Yes thanks, the PO had collected a heap of new parts for it :) The body/chassis were in a bad way which I think is why he threw in the towel, But I have managed to save it :D

Drat, I want this now; you're a good salesman Beef ;-)

But I pass your test: Just bought a new house and even that is probably to small for my collection. Need to start selling, not buying.

Somebody really should pick this up. Apart from Dickie in Germany and perhaps some other resellers that like to mix things up, this is the only real instance I know of Tamiya making a kit for another company. It is a unique piece.

And it is perhaps the only Futaba branded car in existence?

Actually there was one more: the FXT. Sort of a hopped-up Stadium Blitzer. But it was expensive, so it's even rarer.

As for this, interest yes, cash no. Anything you'd be interested in trading for?

Definitely possible - but you have to throw a few proposals my way since I don't know what's in the trading pool on your end...

I'll look around when I get home and send you a PM. Have a couple of ideas...
