I'm downsizing my fleet of runners for awhile due to time constraints. This gave me an idea for a topic. If you could only pick one of each type of car, i.e. one 2wd buggy, one 4wd buggy, one monster truck, one truck, on on-road etc., what would you pick?

For 4wd, I'd have to go with my Hot Shot. I love that heavy. robust vintage 4wd feel with the cool monoshocks. For 2wd, Id take a FAV or Wild One. I really love my SRBs but the FAV/WO is just a bit more modern without losing that realistic vintage feeling.

For monster truck, it would be a Blackfoot. At one time I would have said Lunch Box, but the Blackfoot is just a little bit more capable. When I don't know what to grab, the Blackfoot becomes my default vehicle.

For truck, I'd take a High Lift. As much as I love the Bruiser, I feel better taking my High Lift various places and running it harder. It doesn't look as good but it takes abuse.

I don't do on-road, so those are my selections. What's yours?

There are so many genres now that it's getting difficult to pick! But TBH I'm sort of in the process of doing just this, I have decided I have too many cars that run badly and it would be better to have a few that run well.

So...

2wd buggy: Bear Hawk. Mine is mildly hotted and sweet to drive, but still has vintage character and gets a lot of attention everywhere. It's been with my a while, I deeply regretted selling my first and I'm sure this one will be with me forever, although I don't know how long the shell will last. Sadly, choosing the Bear Hawk means I have to say goodbye to my SRBs in this list, and that feels like a painful choice to make...

4wd buggy: Hotshot for me too. I love the way it handles, although I will be doing a few mild improvements to it next year. It's replaced my ageing Dark Impact as my regular 4wd buggy runner.

2wd truggy: Blitzer, hands-down. Although I do need to change the shocks, currently it handles so bad it's embarrassing to drive.

4wd truggy: I don't have one!! But I'm planning to get a 2nd-hand E-Revo (or E-Maxx) soon. Not a Tamiya, but they can't be beaten as a general basher.

2wd truck: I don't have one!! Not sure if I should rebuild a Blackfoot Extreme from parts (I have enough) or call my friend and buy back the King Blackfoot that I sold him years ago. I really need a truck in my life, and the Extreme is probably the better truck for regular use.

4wd truck: Mod-Clod. Mine is currently in bits pending an overhaul, and in theory it'll go back together as a more classic-styled 80s monster than the extended-chassis, super-fast race truck that I tried (and failed) to turn it into.

Scaler: SCX-10 G6. Uber-capable. Again, I say this because I own one - there may be better runners out there. But I'd choose this over my CC01s, despite how much I love them. I know some have gone back to CC01s claiming the SCX makes it all too easy, but for me it's a hands-down winner if I could only have one.

It gets even more boring when I get to tarmac because I only have one runner of each variety anyway. FF01, TT02-D, M03. Actually I have an M01/02 hybrid but it handles so bad it only comes out to demonstrate what can (but shouldn't) be done with an M01 and a spare gearbox. And I'm probably buying an M05 to start racing again next week, so M03 will be swapped with M05.

Always a fun thought, but probably not a realistic situation for most of the guys in here

2wd buggy: Tamiya Fox, great runner and I love the look.

4wd buggy: Kyosho Turbo Optima Mid SE. Love the Mid series, and never had an SE, so its kind of the Holt grail for me.

Stadium truck: Tamiya blitzer Beetle crome edition, just because of the looks.

2wd monster: Tamiya Monster Beetle. Iconic truck, that just looks so cool.

4wd monster: My mod Clod. Awesome RC.

Shortcourse: Associated SC8e. Handles so well and is blast to drive.

Rally: Tamiya XV01

Ditto. A Hotshot and an Optima Mid may both be "4WD buggies," but they're as different as night and day. Same with a Grasshopper and an RC10. Even my Lunchbox and Pumpkin are different enough to be unique. Nope, not choosing. You can't make me. They're mine, all mine, you hear me? Mine!

Some good choices here. BTW, I'm not selling off any of my cars. I tried to years ago but it's like trying to sell off one of your kids. It can't be done. I'm just shelving some for a bit till I have the time to maintain them all properly. If you break up monsters into 2wd and 4wd, I'd add my Clod Buster and for a racing truck throw in a King Cab. Some choices were agonizingly tough (holding Super Champ in one hand and a Wild One in the other for example). It just came down to practicality and durability in the end.

If we're focusing mostly on vintage and re-re's of vintage - and no uncategorizable mutant abominations - then...

1) 4WD Vtg Buggy: Bigwig or Boomerang

2) 2WD Vtg Buggy: Fox or Madcap

3) 2WD Monster: Monster Beetle

4) 4WD Monster: Dual Hunter ~ WR-01 variants

5) 2WD Basher Buggy: Mad Bull

6) 4WD Basher Buggy: Rising Storm ~ DF-02 variants

7) Onroad: is for wimps
