I received a Blackfoot Extreme from a member on here. It was described as well used and the member even confirmed I was interested after they sent me pictures to show me how rough it was.

The plan is to strip and rebuild with my son. Rough is good because I will not worry about damage, the Blackfoot looks like it has had a lot of fun in its life.

So I introduce Noah

He is 6 next month so about the correct age to get hooked I think.

So as few screws removed as possible to free the arms and the gearbox. 384a4979e40344ee0c7182e91d487dab_zps7w35

The gearbox was not ballraced but the hubs were.

Everything was put in the dishwasher while we had a look in the gearbox

There is a little ware on the cog the pinion runs on but I can put the new pinion a little further on the shaft to get around that.

I do not know if I will add bearings, I have bushes coming out my ears and the rear of the shafts and cogs are serviceable but not great.

The drive shafts are OK but the cups at both ends are dead, will have to do some digging.

The shocks are also dead but I have two or three sets of the awful standard ones. I am thinking of M05ra hubs because I have them in stock and they will add a little ride height without longer shocks.

Not sure about the body yet, Noah has already expressed an interest in changing its look so it may well get sticker bombed and covered in glitter and jewels!

He has been driving for a couple of years but I have not let him assemble yet. I like to do my kits my way and in my time so I had to get him something we could both work on. I promised him a Lunchbox when he was older but I think this I a much better car overall, the lunchbox can wait until he can build it all himself

Sounds like a great project. If you fancy a complete body change a Beetle shell looks very good on the WT01 chassis and survives rollovers a lot better thanks to its shape.

I have all the bits to do a WT-01n with no body at the moment, I might beetle that one. The price of hard bodies does throw me a bit though

This looks like really good fun for dad and son.

It's great to see the BF getting a new lease of life, if you need any parts please PM me, if I've got anything useful left in my spares I'm happy to donate to such a worthy cause.

Noah is possibly a little young, but the shell would make a great Mad Max type theme or maybe a Stadium Racer look, bright colours and net Windows....it is going to get the badword driven out of it anyway.

BTW did you find much Cornish sand in it? ; )

Thanks. I think I have drive cups that will do and also the rest of the odd bits.

Lots of sand on top of the gearbox and the screws definitely point to it being run by the sea. The wheel bearings have help up well and might be reusable.

I want to take it to the sea with Noah so I have no guilt running this is those conditions. Can give him a full power silvercan on the beach, very little to hit :-)

So the boy has a fever today and did not want to move off the sofa

Bits out the dishwasher

After my stuck LiPo in the same chassis I thought about opening up the battery area. Looks like someone had the idea before me. I need mor thought on the before I do to much grinding

I found a new pinion, alloy but it will do for this build. The bearings are smooth but the seals are failing or failed so I will run them in the box.

These will get replaced with

These

I cannot find any spare shafts in my box. I am sure I ran hollow shafts in my others so I should have three. I know the drive cups are for a ball diff but I am sure they have enough splines to hold up.

Set of spare shocks found, hope not to run these for long but free is free :-)

Just need a plan to free up some battery space and we are back in business.

53217 will work, but it could be a weak point. 53218 would be the correct diff outdrives, as these extend into the splined diff bevel gears much further, so can take much more torque.

I would offer a straight swap because I made the opposite mistake as you but can only find one half of the outdrives I bought.

Coming along nicely though.

I got two of each because they were pennies from Banzai. I am not sure the spur gear is going to take much use so there are lots or weak points. I will forget this a budget project by he time they fail and then do it correctly.

I forgot to update this

I could not run the damaged shafts, my brain would not let it pass

SAM_2544_zpslrtmzgbg.jpg

Assembled

SAM_2545_zpsmru9ixcw.jpg

I bolted in a motor and set the pinion to the best part of the gear

SAM_2546_zpsr2ll29as.jpg

I then took it off and fitted a hardened one from my stock, again I just could not let it lie.

SAM_2548_zpsfklemwnu.jpg

Damaged ends and a bent bar but again I had a bar and loads of ends in stock

SAM_2549_zpsxbwlhbrd.jpg

New servo and superglued servo saver

SAM_2552_zpsmag3dzvr.jpg

Bumper repair, it was bent and not holding the U in place.

SAM_2555_zpslgk0ztmi.jpg

And here is the boy before he built up those bits

SAM_2550_zpsvj7yr1ye.jpg

Just got back from a birthday party and very happy with his Frozen face paint

SAM_2551_zpszbrgcnws.jpg

I did a load to the body. Attacked all the cracks and broken bit with a soldering iron and then hot glued up all the gaps to try and give a bit of shock protection.

Forgot to take pictures so will get some of the finished article when the weather is clear again.

few more images I found on camera

SAM_2558_zpswljywfon.jpg

Roll bar was snapped so in put in a couple of flat nails in the grooves underneath and then hit it with a hot iron and cable ties. para cord to look like rope and cover the repair

Front end held on

Chrome flatted back and given a coat of silver

That's a great save Nobbi, it looks like the majority of the bits you used came from your spares which is usually quite satisfying.

I hope Noah enjoys it as much as we did and it's good too see it getting run again.

The sale of this truck and our Holiday buggy bought my daughters a net ball set, so they are happy and it's another fresh air activity so I'm happy too!

It is great when hobbies can be recycled to pay for the next one.

A 3/4 inch sanding drum takes the battery hole out big enough for a good size LiPo pack so the next run will be much longer.

Ok so Banzai were selling Kawada BMB-1750 brushless motors for £16 posted so I though it would be worth a go.

17.5T should be about the same as slivercan with longer run times.

Much longer shaft

SAM_2681_zpswhy1di7s.jpg

Ready to tidy up

SAM_2682_zps6nrlfvyk.jpg

No more photos as Frank was blowing in and I wanted a test run.

I goes about the same as a silvercan, maybe a bit quicker and after 5 min of full throttle driving the motor was cool so maybe it would go up a pinion as he gets better.

Best of all it freed a 1060 esc up to use on another build
