I used my new LiPO for the first time yesterday and I am converted, why did I wait so long to do this! It's awesome!

Anyway, I only have one LiPO compatible ESC but I figure I could do with a couple more, is there a general one that people recommend? Mine is an M-Troniks but at over £30 I was thinking there may be a slightly cheaper alternative?

Thanks :)

I use these and am delighted with them,

Here's the newer version model, same price;

Which looks the same as these, which others heartily recommend, they look like they're straight out the same factory...(although on paper specs are different, maybe HPI more conservative or vice versa) or perhaps they really are different internally...

The 1060 is cheap and works well for brushed motors. All ESC will work with LiPo you just need a £1.99 alarm to let you know when the battery is running down

Thanks for the links :)

I have a LiPO alarm, my only issue is the fact that I can't get inside the car when I use my Monster Beetle, the balance lead is only short so it's hard to keep it fixed, probably just need to spend more than 10 seconds looking at the problem :lol:

Not necessarily! As I found out to my cost.

Check the maximum input voltage of your esc, some cannot take the full 8.4v of a fully charged lipo!

Are you sure that's true. A fully charged quality Nimh or Nicad 6-cell can easily top 9 volts at full charge.

Any ESC should be able to at least handle a 2s at 8.4v

I think the problem is that LiPo holds that charge longer so there is more chance of thermoing. Nimh drop voltage so fast I guess it lessons the issue

The only reason I say it is because I recently blew up my LRP Runner AI reverse on 2S lipo. Looking at the manual in detail it states an input voltage of 4.8-7.2V, whereas other ESCs I've looked at since state higher ratings - Tamiya ESCs will accommodate 7 nimh cells for example.

I'll miss the LRPs compact footprint but I'm just forever grateful it didn't wreck my lovely TL01 in the process of self-destruction!

Never heard of that happening...that definitely sucks!

I know my Tamiya 104 BK esc states 'up to 7.2v' but I've been using a 8.4v nimh for awhile now and no smoke yet =) It does thermal once in awhile if I'm constantly running through grass.
