Herd from a good source that the Kyosho Ultima is going to get Re realise in March next year.

Think about it and makes sense since it was a serious 2wd contender back then and even won the Worlds at Romsey England if memory serves me correct.

Even though I have a few Ultima's in my collection from shelf queens to runners this would be a awesome realise to me.

I remember drooling over the Kyosho cars in RC Car Action when I was a kid...

They were such beautiful cars... I still look at them on EBAY every once in a while...

Odd choice... I know it was popular and a successful racer, but the Optima and Javelin are more iconic, surely?

Still interesting, as long as it's the first version with the back-half rollcage on the body and those cool directional wheels.

Woo Hoo!!!!

The Ultima was the first Hobby Grade r/c I ever saw, when a kid in my hometown got one for Christmas in 1988. Keep in mind we lived in a very small coal-mining town in southeast Kentucky and until then, none of us kids had any idea there was such a thing as hobby grade. To us, the guy down the other side of the street with the Radio Shack Golden Arrow, had the the greatest buggy on the planet. Needless to say, it opened the floodgates, and soon another kid had an RC10, then I got a Clodbuster, and the obsession kept going from there (the mountains of Kentucky is a GREAT place for off road r/c's)

Alway loved the look of the Ultima and if this rumor's true, I will definitely be building one. Got a Turbo Ultima in a trade back in the 90's, but it was well past its prime and beaten to heck.

Hmm, I'm a bit sceptical about this rumour, to be honest. Not that I don't think they will re-release this kit eventually but I still believe the Optima will be the next re-release.....unless that buggy is taking more time to be redeveloped, and they want to bring something else out in the meantime.

I think it makes more sense to release a vintage 4WD chassis after the Scorpion, rather than go with another 2WD. Don't get me wrong though, I will be all over any original Ultima re-re as it is one of those vintage kits that is on my wishlist.

Totally off-topic, but anybody knows which one was released first, the Kyosho Javelin or the Marui Galaxy?

I'm with Wandy.. The Optima would be the logical next re-release. There is definitely more demand for it as well.

It's also the final piece missing in my vintage re-re collection.

By piecing together things I now hear and see :o from various solid sources, my bet are still on the Optima for the next re-release from Kyosho. At least now I'm 100% sure they are currently working on the re-design* of the Optima chassis. They could, of course, already have finished re-designing the Ultima, and they're now working on the Optima for re-release AFTER that, but I have not seen any sorts of evidence of that from those same sources. The only place I have heard about the Ultima being the next one up, is in this thread. When it comes to the Optima, on the other hand.....

*When I say re-design, it's because some of the oldest Kyoshos (at least the Circuit 1000 series) were designed with pen and paper, while the "Legendary Series" of re-release are being re-designed in Solidworks 3D CAD, by the same designer who drew them by hand 30 years ago. Also the fact that Kyosho have destroyed all their old manufacturing equipment like moulds etc, calls for a re-design of everything.

Considering the suspension parts on the original were pot metal and the new car is aluminium.. Yes they needed to create new tooling. No matter, it's a very simple design so whatever they did, wasn't very costly.

Here's looking forward to the re-re / redesigned Optima :)

Let's hope for this year!

Schumacher have brought the CAT back for its 30th, maybe the ultima too?

I had this buggy and hated it it broke like crazy...the RC10 was much better and stronger and bashable back then for me...the ultima is the buggy that made me not like kyosho and a few others that always broke like crazy left me with a bad tast for kyosho back then. But that said Kyosho Re releases are always a lot better than the originals so it will probably be very nice! :D

Raced one for years and the only thing that I broke where top decks/radio plate, as if you crashed the front, it bent up and snapped it. A few decks later , I cut the front of the deck back to the steering and it was fine after that 😉

After doing exactly the same thing a couple of times with mine, I cut through the bottom part of the chassis, put a hinge in, and used a shock absorber to make a 'crash back system'. ;)

I eventually managed to get hold of a grp or carbon top plate, which was a lot stronger. Replaced it with an Ultima Pro and made more of effort not to drive into anything.......
