WillyChang 1814 Posted March 31, 2003 I know time and time again everyone says 540s are "zero timed"... meaning they go just as well in both directions. But has anyone actually sat down and looked closely?? Do this please... 1) work out where the midpoint of the 2 magnets are, 2) then - where are the brushes in relation to the magnets? Are they really zero timed? Lets discuss what you decipher.
TWO STAR 0 Posted March 31, 2003 most people reffer to "zero timing" by looking at the endbell pin located between both terminals and expecting that it is lined up between the cans magnets.the common p2k motor has a advance of 24 degrees, when you look at the can from the endbell you can see the endbell is off set in the advanced position,& can not be changed due to its endbell shape & can shape.some manufacturers have a timing sticker or a timing stamp on the can for adjustments.the manufacturer may have the timing set at zero but there is a internal setting of a cetain degrees usually in the slightly advanced position.
