Some Tamiya 2016 RC-kit releases (Hi-res pics added January 26th)

Recommended Posts

IDK why the thought hasn't come to me before, but I wonder if Tamiya isn't copying someone that had taken some Semi wheels and tires and bolted them onto their TT chassis as a joke and then found a Racing Rig body from the old days and plopped it on top.

I've seen more than a few pictures of RC lorry racing recently - I wonder if it's having a resurgence in parts of the world. If that's the case then getting in early with a cheap racing lorry is a good plan for them, especially as they already have a foot in the licensing door with the Euro big rigs. People are always throwing crazy shells over touring chassis for a joke, Tamiya don't usually turn them into a release ;)

Most RC race lorries are just shells dumped onto regular touring chassis, it's interesting to see the pic has proper lorry wheels. If Tamiya are going to stick with proper lorry wheels for the production release then good for them, maybe they're lining up for a regulated one-make series?

I'm excited to see how this one pans out.

The racing truck is an inspired release and will surely appeal to a wide range of RC enthusiasts. Would be awesome to see a whole new class arise from it. Think I prefer it in green and white but the livery choices are endless.

Just had a quick google for them. The Yokomo is a bit ugly but I do like this by Carson.

We took the kids to watch the truck racing at Brands Hatch a few years back, couple of pics;

Personally I like this type of truck with a snout front end...I used to race a 1:5 Caterpillar FG truck in this style...

That is an actual RC truck? In 1:5 scale?

Looks awfully like the Tamiya version - suggests they have 'borrowed' Carson's mould..... <_<

Shame I thought for a minute it might be something 'new' at least the tamiya version may have truck specific wheels.

Yes, FG Modellsport. For some reason the new one is 4wd, mine was rwd!

Video of one here...

I do have a black and white picture of mine from a newsletter way back, I'll have to dig it out!

Lol I knew really Nitomor....great pics mate....I can see me getting an RC racing truck now.... :)

Yes I guessed you did!

I had white racing wheels with my slicks Wandy, and wets on the stock wheels. They were very cool but tricky to handle in racing. The engines were far better than Nitro, they used proper unleaded petrol 2 smokers!

Going around a circuit...

You can get an idea of how tricky they were to handle.

Nice, allbeit not quite as large as I imagined it would be.

Although I like the idea of Nitro/Petrol powered RC, the noise of the things always puts me off.

Definately the TA03F but in McRae guise. I believe also the TL01 as Burns.

Thanks for that. Judging by the wheels this is a re-release of 44024.

First photo of the 58630 Plasma Edge II (TT-02B)

I so see one of these in my future. That M-05 V.II R Chassis Kit looks awfully tasty too. Dagnabit! Two new models on the wish list? How am I going to justify this to my wife?

Would the Plasma Edge II body fit straight onto a Neo Scorcher chassis?

I don't suppose Tamiya have taken that approach? Or is the G-Wagen based on the same narrow MWB configuration as the Jimny?

Long wheel base for the G-Wagen confirmed! 239mm => true 1/10 scale!
