It's the 1st Christmas with your daughter!! Congrats, Neil!!

A BIG BEAR!!!? :o

I did not know you finally found one. C'mon, you have to share some pictures of that juicy Datsun ;)

Thank you Erich! :) Yes it will be, quite exciting although she is a bit young for a lot of things, but next year should be more fun!

Oh I thought you might have seen it already... this is how it sits:

Persevere with the tiger, it is worth it. Once you set it up and memorise the trim and stick movements it is a very rewarding rc!

You know what, for 2016 I'll just do whatever I feel like doing if the mood strikes. I don't have anything to prove and I don't need to go crazy trying to meet goals when it's supposed to be an ENJOYABLE hobby.

My goal is to make time to drive my car... I've spent a year tinkering with it and have never run it for more than 10 minutes at a time in the street in front of our house... I'd like to find a nice spot to drive and let it rip every few weeks or so...

mine will definitely be done in the "built to a budget" way, but it should still do the basics. I must admit yours sounds awesome, just from the parts list!

Stands me at around £60 for ebay sourced vac pump, tesco vac cleaner and home & bargains panel heater. The rest is 'recycled' after annual maintenance in work, even the metal for the framework is old school tables from a skip.

There are a few projects I'd like to get to in '16. Whether I will or not remains to be seen, but here they are in order of likelyhood-to-be-completed:

Purchase and paint up a new-shape Honda Civic Type R shell for my FF-03 chassis to go alongside my old-shape FF-01 Castrol Honda Civic.

Purchase and modify some repro GH2 decals for a Mad Bull shell to represent a GH3.

Purchase and paint up a Subaru Impreza shell for my TL-01LA to go alongside my TT-01 Mitsubishi Evo.

Turn a Rising Fighter into a Super Hornet II using Pintopower/Shapeways parts.

This is some of the projects i know about for 2016.

- finish my Procat project, only need to paint the shell

- get my Kyosho Blizzard up and running and ready to showel snow

- finish the Knight customs sand rail

- build the Jamie Booth Egress when i get the kit

- rebuild my Avante 2011 into a black special

- restore my vintage Avante

Update:

- finish my runner vintage Monster Beetle

- Restore my friends dead Brothers Hot Shot II, so he can have on the shelf and use it to run if he wants to.

That should keep me busy for some time

getting my vintage Blackfoot running again for my kids and i to enjoy going with the " normal" upgrades .... bearings , esc , upgrade servo , motor upgrade , 2.4 gig radio and receiver kit ..... should be fun time ... might give the original body a face lift .... we'll see .... if any one is looking for a nice Futaba mag jr radio and original msc let me know - Dave as well as two futaba servo's from original kit

Project for next year is to complete my Sand Rover SRB chassis conversion. I know people have done it before, but it feels like the right thing to do... although I do feel a little bit guilty for not doing a resto (sorry Dave)...

Great point - but I find this hobby can be thoroughly unfulfilling if I don't push myself to do better. Or, indeed, to do anything.

I suffer from the dual curse of being both a perfectionist and terribly lazy. I start something intending it to be better than anything else I've ever done, then get bored and rush to finish, or stuff it on the shelf and start something else. I end up with very disappointing results and a shelf full of cars that I'm almost too embarrassed to make build threads for. Most of my collection isn't in my showroom because I only ever put "finished" cars there, and nothing is ever finished :D

I'm hopefully not going to spend as much on new tamiya's in 2016 (easier said than done!) I must finish my boomerang re-build and my newly acquired mud blaster and I've got to stop going on eBay but again easier said than done because all the original parts I get are from eBay! But I'm determined to lay off the new rc's for 2016 (unless the ford ranger make's an appearance and the 959!!)

2016, finish getting my friends TXT-1 up and running and then my re re monster beetle, crawler king and a few other bitsa projects i have going on.

Got two lined up for over the Christmas holiday. Got bearings to replace the plastic bushes on my TA04 Ferrari 360. Plus a new GT tuned motor to fit. Inspired by the black edition Grasshopper ill be building a bit of a hydrid kit. Which I'm calling the Fighting Mad Grasshopper. I'll do a build thread on that one.

This.

I have an idea for a "project: toy" where I create a hobby grade truck with the appearance and proportions of a toy circa 198? But that's dependent on whether or not I bite the bullet and shell out the $ for Rhino.

Oh Yer !! Big plains , Moving into house , Out of Bus . So now i have room for my RC 80's hobby shop room << well that's the plain .

Will take time to set up of course , But the biggest thing is . I will have room & alot of it . I'm hoping to make it look like a hobby shop

of the 80's .. Well to the best i can anyway :D ..

So i can get things done , I hope  .. with RC that is just sitting in plastic contaners "not finished " .

I love this idea! I wanted to do something similar, at least one staged pic anyway. I hope you do it and post up some pics!

I need to finish some long standing projects..

  • paint and decal the Optima shell, completes my rebuild
  • lots of styrene work to finish the Towmator shell for my lunchie - started this 18 months ago :(
  • finish my CPE brushless Clod project - I have a used Bullhead shell, but think i'll end up with a C10 long bed lexan one
  • build the high lift chassis, so that i have something to put the shell that i painted a year ago on !

And probably the most needed part is to sell of a lot of the spares and ancilliaries that I seem to have accumulated in the last 5 years - i was a bit too keen bidding on items and got more motors and parts than anyone needs lol!

And continue to not hit the 'checkout now' button on the RB One R Pro kit I've had in my shopping basket for 2 days !

Well I can happily report that on my short list of items from December I am not doing tooooo badly :D

> Optima not progressed, but now have a re-re bumper and front guard on route - that should spur me on to get the shell sorted ;)

> Towmator - no progress :(

> CPE Clod - complete :D :D :D

> High Lift - built, complete, finished :D

Spares sales - my other half would say the piles not moved much, but what has gone has generated funds to progress projects

Not bought much ? Bought three / four this year..

> CC-01 kit thats built , complete and running :D

> vintage Traxxas Bandit, that once its sporting new front wheels, new decals and a new rear wing will be sold.

> and a vintage Hilux, well who wouldn't !

> bought the relevant MF-01 sprues to add to exisiting M chassis spares to build a MF-01X chassis - thats built too !

In my defence I've parted with a Terra Scorcher, Frog, Wild One and Wild willy 2

Neat idea - so, 4 months since I wrote this post and well over a quarter of the way into the year, how's my progress so far?

Less runners, probably.

Sort of, and sort of not. I think I actually have more.

a) I invested in some LiPo alarms so I can use my older speedos - so runners will cost less to commission

B) I bought some more cheap receivers

c) I figured cars are meant to be driven

Get to more events.

Proving tricky. Starting a family, saving for a future, refurbing the house, restyling the garden, converting a camper - finding time for RC meets that don't conflict with other commitments is very tough this year. If we have a baby next year then, potentially, last year was the last chance I'll have got to really run my cars in anger. Factor in fuel costs of around £100 per meet and it's difficult to justify to the wife too.

Maybe sorting out all those runners wasn't such a good idea!

On the other hand, the local(ish) scale community is really picking up, it's less distance to travel, less stuff gets broke and I don't tend to stay as long - so they're easier to justify when time is tight.

Think about my shelf displays.

Thunk about, things are underway. Maybe making a new diorama shelf this weekend. On Monday I took all my runners (which were in storage boxes, ready to grab and throw in the van at short notice) and put them on my shelves. I figure they're just as easy to grab from the studio and throw them into a box as they are to grab a loaded box from the garage.

I may get rid of some shelfers or put them in storage so the space looks less cluttered. I can swap the stored with the unstored whenever I feel like it.

Get my Hotshot set up for regular use / racing.

Done - only took a day to get the brushless kit working and the modern tyres on. It only took two laps to drive it into a concrete post and destroy it. Need to replace some bits on it but probably won't have a chance to run it seriously until the Revival.

Make my Blitzer perform better.

Still not got around to swapping the better shocks onto it. I sheared off a stub axle this weekend so I'll be thinking about what to improve as I rebuild it.

Get my paint booth properly sorted

Done - it rocks. Not ideal when the weather is damp as the garage isn't insulated, damp still gets in the air (very noticeable when spraying chrome), but at least it's protected from wind, flies, dust... Just need to sort out a system to get paint dust out of the air before I start.

Finish a bunch of projects. Blown57, Bowler Wildcat, F150 CC01 on 1.55s, F150 street trucks, lightweight vintage SRB, car trailer, hydraulic ramp, Minerva Dragons shelfers, a crazy Mad Max-style drift Beetle, Robbe Jeep scaler, F150 ramp truck

Blown57: not moved since last post

Bowler Wildcat: now set up for infrequent running, still needs chassis paint

F150 CC01: not moved in yonks; now I want to build a working wrecking crane for it

F150 street trucks: not moved in yonks

Lightweight vintage SRB: no idea where this is going

Car trailer: almost finished, needs lights, ramps and paint

Hydraulic ramp: still want to get started on this

Minerva dragons shelvers: not sure if I can justify buying more shells

Mad Mad-style drift Beetle: built, looks awesome, drifts well, but doesn't quite have the Mad Max look I was going for. Considering throwing the Beetle shell on a TA02T instead...

Robbe Jeep scaler: can't remember when I last touched this!

F150 ramp truck: still a pipe dream

Keep on racing

Still racing every Monday, trying to justify an M05 chassis so I can keep up with everyone else

Get into tractor trucks

way too many parts to paint!! Been to a few truck meets as a spectator, but it's taking so long to labouriously paint all the little detail parts that the excitement to go play with it has worn off

keeping my workspace clear of junk

Not doing toooo bad at this, but not brilliant. It's so easy to use any spare flat surface as a place for putting things when I come through the door loaded up with work stuff. Also my workbench is getting loaded up with projects that won't fit on the project shelves. I seriously need to retire some projects to the garage out of the way so I have a bit more room (both physically and mentally) to work on other stuff.

All in all, though, I'm still having a great time with RC. Have already pushed myself harder and further before and created some great stuff, really really happy with my creations this year. But I can do better; furthermore, I can publicise my creations more so I actually feel like I'm getting some genuine good feedback on what I've created, rather than making something great then letting it disappear into obscurity before a single soul ever sees it.

I hope you're all still having a great year in RC :D

  • Finished my Tundra Highlift, and sold it!
  • Monster Beetle rere is still in its box, but hey it is only April.

Like Grumpy Pants I am selling off a fair bit of stuff. Feeling overwhelmed as I have no time with tending to my 8 month daughter now

Hoping to get some of these started/done over Christmas holidays.

Finish big bear body and apply decals (couple of other bits needed too).

Paint vintage boomerang and apply decals.

Strip vintage bruiser body and paint it, find some original decals.

Finish Scania build, need sound unit decals etc and other various bits and bobs.

Still have my new vintage clod body to paint and decals to apply from 2 years ago.

Acquire a Mammoth Dump Truck

Haven't touched Big Bear, Haven't touched Boomerang, Haven't touched Bruiser, got sound and decals for Scania, Haven't acquired a Mammoth.

I have no time and no money anymore, I started a new job this year which takes up more time and pays me less, and as soon as I walk in the door I have to look after my little girl until it is time to go to bed (and then clean up the house and bed for me).

Weekends it just doesn't happen. Unless the missus and my daughter are asleep, and by then I am too tired.
