Anyway, the GH2 uses one-piece wheels. The ones you can see in the pictures here belong to the original GH and they're three-piece wheels.

Sorry, should have explained that better. I've got some rear grasshopper wheels with the bolts in. Plus I've a bag of small screws. Although looking at them not sure if they are the right ones. Your welcome to the screws and wheels if you want them. Won't be using them myself.

The self tapping are definitely the wrong ones for the wheels. The ones for the wheels are 8 or 10mm machine screws with matching bolts.

Flip the front dampers upright. Having them upside down like that adds a ton of unsprung mass to the suspension.

Also your front shocks should tilt inward some or you will have a suspension that softens considerably as it compresses. That's the opposite of what you want your suspension to do.

I would wager the shocks should be angled so they are perpendicular to the arms when the car is bottomed out on the ground (with wheels & tires on).

Well, after the Holidays hiatus, here's the finished specimen, with the Futaba steering servo installed, and new Mabuchi RS540 fitted (with bronze pinion). ;)

I used a pair of shocks of unknown brand in the back. A buddy here was going to throw them as his kid bent the shaft of one of them. I fixed that and they work alright now. :lol:

The rear tires and wheels are vintage Bolink. I like the look of those aggressive rubber knobs. Other than that, the rear part of the body is attached with a bit of 3M velcro.

Yes, those front shocks are not matched, one is Kyosho gold and the other RC10. I did not have a matching one for it.

Works very good over the work bench... let's hope it works the same when hitting the dirt!

That looks great and I would suspect will return some GREAT driving fun soon. I think a handmade wing would go well with this too, do you happen to have some of that metal left over from the front shock support?? Perhaps you could bend a piece up and put it on with some screws and velcro too???

Though I don't do this myself some people do install the dampers this way to prevent any oil loss from leaky seals, makes perfect sense I suppose if you're not up for replacing or rebuilding the shocks

It's funny in a way you'd point out the front shocks focusing on technical and practical stuff. I actually did that way for another reason: I did not have matching shocks for the front and if I placed them the other way it would have been even more evident the humble nature of the vehicle!

Anyway, upside down or not, the new owner was totally chuffed with it and even missing the battery door, he happily handed me $50 for the car.

Now I can just go ahead and find me something nice to work on. :)

This will not work anyway because it's not the gravity but the pressure that pushes out the oil. If the damper is leaking oil, it will leak oil anyway, whatever position it works.
On the contrary the heavier part of the damper (the cylinder) linked to the suspension will decrease its damping performance.
The first rule is "no weight on suspension parts".
